President Donald Trump suggested his Miami golf resort could be the location of next year’s Group of Seven summit.

On the heels of this year’s G7 summit in Biarritz, France, over the weekend, the president spoke with reporters about the possibility of his Florida property being the site of the annual gathering in 2020 which is already scheduled to take place in the United States.

“I think we’ll have a very successful G7. It’ll probably be in Miami, right next to the international airport — great location,” Trump told reporters in France during a meeting with German chancellor Angela Merkel, referring to the  Trump National Doral Miami, his 800-acre golf resort.

“It’s one of the biggest airports, takes planes from everywhere. Sometimes you have hours and hours of driving to get to certain locations,” Trump added, speaking of Miami International Airport.

“You’ll only have a five-minute drive, which is good,” he added, turning to Merkel.

Profits at the Trump property have reportedly declined due to the negative backlash against the president and seemingly anything that bears his name, according to a report earlier this year in The Washington Post .

“We think we’re going to have a very successful one and we can learn from what took place here, because I think they did a really great job,” Trump told reporters, referring to the French seaside location. “Even architecturally, the way the rooms were set up and designed.”

“We got some good ideas from this G7,” Trump said on the annual forum of the international economic organization which is made up of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

French President Emmanuel Macron came under heavy criticism after he unexpectedly invited Iran’s foreign minister to join the other world leaders. Despite reports to the contrary, Trump insisted that he was not caught off guard by Macron’s invitation to Mohammad Javad Zarif, who arrived and met with the French leader on Sunday.

“I knew he was coming in and I respected the fact that he was coming in. And we’re looking to make Iran rich again, let them be rich, let them do well, if they want,” Trump told reporters. “Or they can be poor as can be.”

News of Trump’s idea to host the 2020 G7 at his Doral property set off critics who naturally claimed the president will profit from the event.

Trump National Doral and the president’s other Florida property, Mar-a-Lago, are run by the Trump Organization which is currently being administered by Trump’s adult sons while he is serving in the White House.

Before speaking on Monday about his Doral golf resort as the host location for the 2020 G7 summit, Trump was asked who his “surprise guest” would be at next year’s event, in an obvious reference to what Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Jacobs referred to as a “Major Macron curveball.”

“I don’t think there’ll be any surprises,” Trump responded. “I’m not looking for surprises.”
