During an appearance Wednesday evening on Fox News, investigative reporter Sara Carter guaranteed that, based on her sources, Department of General Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s investigation into the Obama administration will undoubtedly lead to criminal referrals.
“There will be criminal referrals,” she said to FNC host Sean Hannity. “I absolutely believe that based on the sources I’ve spoken with and the people I’ve talked to. What we have to wait and see is if the Department of Justice will actually charge these people with a crime.”

Why does she feel this way? In part because of what’s been happening.
“Remember, people are coming out of the woodwork now,” she’d explained a bit earlier in the segment. “Horowitz has been interviewing so many people in the FBI and others.”
Fact-check: TRUE.
A report emerged earlier this summer that several witnesses who’d previously been hesitant about speaking with Horowitz as per his investigation into potential Obama administration FISA abuses had since changed their minds.
What was notable about the “breakthrough,” as Fox News described it at the time, was that it happened right after Attorney General William Barr ordered U.S. Attorney John Durham to launch a separate investigation into the origins of the Russia probe.

“I tell you this — everyone is waiting for this big report, and we are hearing that they will be handing people over for prosecution,” Carter continued.
“There will be criminal referrals. I absolutely believe that based on the sources I’ve spoken with and the people I’ve talked to. What we have to wait and see is if the department of justice will actually charge these people with a crime.”
Referrals specifically for “lack of candor, literally pre-meditated fraud on a FISA court, rigging an investigation, trying to influence a presidential election, two instances of spying on a presidential candidate,” etc., Hannity added.
Others have echoed this belief, including retired U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova, who’s repeatedly urged certain members of the Obama administration to lawyer up, pronto.
“John Brennan isn’t going to need one lawyer. He’s going to need five,” he said specifically last April of disgraced former CIA Director John Brennan.
“It has been evident from day one that there was a brazen plot to exonerate Hillary Clinton illegally, and then if she lost the election, to frame Donald Trump. This dossier was a knowing part of that. It was created by Hillary Clinton. It was created knowingly by John Brennan as part of a scheme to do everything they could to harm Donald Trump.”

What remains unclear in the here and now is whether Horowitz’s findings will be released publicly. Some congressional Republicans, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, fear they may wind up being buried in “classified” files.
“Lindsey Graham is going to be meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr,” FNC journalist Gregg Jarrett noted during the discussion Wednesday. “He wants to ensure that the findings — not just with the inspector general but also John Durham, which will be forthcoming as well — are not hidden under classification status.”
“If Christopher Wray, the FBI director, and the intel chiefs had their way, everything would be hidden and covered up and concealed from the American public. AG Barr’s not going to allow that to happen.”
What even Barr can’t prevent, however, is the media from concealing the truth. As noted by Jarrett, the other day Graham warned that, despite how “ugly” he expects Horowitz’s report to be for the Obama administration, he doesn’t expect to hear much about it from the media.
“I think it’s going to be really damning and ugly and people did some really bad things that are dangerous for the country, but you’ll only find it on Fox,” he’d said the to Hannity the previous evening. “Here’s what I predict: It’ll be ten percent of the coverage that the Mueller report got, and that’s a shame.”
To this day, former special counsel Robert Mueller’s report continues to receive an undue amount of attention and coverage, despite it having proved absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, the mainstream media have downplayed concerns about the potential findings of Horowitz’s and Durham’s investigations as just another “Deep State conspiracy theory.”
Dovetailing back to Wednesday’s edition of “Hannity,” it actually began with a brief report documenting the “10 declassified Russia collusion revelations that could rock Washington this fall”:
- “Christopher Steele’s confidential human source reports at the FBI.”
- “The 53 House Intel interviews.”
- “The Stefan Halper documents.”
- “The October 2016 FBI email chain.”
- “Page/Papadopoulos exculpatory statements.”
- “The ‘Gang of Eight’ briefing materials.”
- “The Steele spreadsheet.”
- “The Steele interview.”
- “The redacted sections of the third FISA renewal application.”
- “Records of allies’ assistance.”
The actual report was written by investigative reporter John Solomon, though Hannity briefly spoke about it before his panel discussion with Carter and Jarrett.

“My reporting, including interviews with four dozen U.S. officials over the last several months, actually identifies a much larger collection of documents — about a dozen all together — that, when declassified, would show more completely how a routine counterintelligence probe was hijacked to turn the most awesome spy powers in America against a presidential nominee in what was essentially a political dirty trick orchestrated by Democrats,” Solomon noted in his report.
