Reeling from ‘head-spinning’ day, Chuck Todd slams GOP for ‘enabling’ Trump’s ‘erratic’ behavior

MSNBC “journalist” Chuck Todd began Wednesday’s edition of “Meet the Press Daily” by ranting and raving about President Donald Trump’s allegedly abnormal presidency.

However, his ranting and raving seemed to be devoid of any actual facts (which for some reason is common among the rants by MSNBC’s various hosts) …

“What a Wednesday,” his rant began. “What a hump day. Welcome to ‘Meet the Press.’ I’m Chuck Todd here in Washington. And welcome to a day when we do feel compelled to tell you again that what is now the norm in Washington is not normal, and in many ways it’s un-American.”

“I can’t believe I have to say it, but it is not normal, nor is it American, to call Jewish-Americans disloyal if they somehow vote for the Democrats.”

Earlier in the week, the president said that Jewish Americans who vote for the Democrat Party are being disloyal to their own interests.

“I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat — I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge, or great disloyalty,” he initially said to reporters Tuesday.

He made the remarks during a broader statement about the Democrat Party’s apparent abandonment of Israel and embrace of anti-Semitic Muslim Reps. Omar and Rashida Tlaib.

In another statement Wednesday morning, he pushed back on critics by clarifying his remarks.

“In my opinion, the Democrats have gone very far away from Israel. I cannot understand how they can do that. They don’t want to fund Israel. They want to take away foreign aid to Israel,” he said.

“They want to do a lot of bad things to Israel. In my opinion, you vote for a Democrat, you’re being very disloyal to Jewish people and very disloyal to Israel.”

“It is not normal, let alone very American, to cancel a trip to Denmark because they won’t sell us Greenland, after saying the trip to Denmark had nothing to do with buying Greenland in the first place,” Cooper continued Wednesday.

By the time “Meet the Press Daily” aired at 5:00 pm Wednesday, the president had already explained to the press that he’d cancelled his trip to Denmark because of the “nasty” way in which Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had rejected his offer to buy Greenland.

“I thought it was a very not nice way of saying something. They could have told me no,” he said to reporters earlier that morning. “All they had to say was we’d rather not do that. Don’t say, what an absurd idea that is.”

Speaking to Danish media on Sunday, the prime minister did indeed call the proposal “absurd.”

“It’s an absurd discussion, and [Greenland Premier] Kim Kielsen has of course made it clear that Greenland is not for sale. That’s where the conversation ends,” she reportedly said.

“It is not normal to deny a tax cut is on the table, then confirm that a tax cut is on the table and then again deny it all in the space of 36 hours and expect any of us to take you seriously,” the MSNBC host continued Wednesday. “It is not normal that we can’t take the president seriously because taxes and Greenland are just two in a long list of things he’s completely reversed himself on recently.”

Fact-check: FALSE.

On Monday, the White House — not the president himself — issued a statement to CNBC claiming that “cutting payroll taxes is not something under consideration at this time.”

A day later, the president admitted to the media that he personally is thinking about a possible payroll tax cut. However, after he received scathing backlash from the media, which portrayed his proposed tax cuts as “wasteful,” among other things, he changed his mind.

There’s nothing abnormal about one changing one’s mind because of backlash …

After failing to get any of the facts correct, Todd then switched from reporting non-factual facts to straight-out opining about the alleged abnormalcy of Trump’s presidency.

“It is not normal for the Republican Party to enable this, to sit back,” he said. “By not standing up, speaking out, elected Republicans are allowing the president to keep behaving erratically, abnormally, and in ways that are far from effective. And, oh, by the way, conditioning the entire base of the Republican Party that this is somehow normal behavior.”

“This is no way to run a country,” he added after playing a clip of Trump speaking. “This is no way to talk about a country’s citizens. It’s no way to treat an American ally. Everybody in Washington knows this. Staff members at the White House know this. Top officials inside the Republican Party know this.”

He concluded his rant by arguing that Republicans recognize that “none of this is normal” but refuse to say anything “perhaps” because of “fear.”

A cursory glance through Twitter suggests that his fact-free rant has not been well received by the president’s supporters. They argued in tweets that, one, it’s the president’s allegedly abnormality that’s made him so successful, and two, what’s truly not normal is the habit of the media’s “journalists” of ranting and raving like political commentators.
