While rapper Jay-Z has received heavy criticism for his new deal with the NFL, it appears the sports league is not doubting the partnership one bit.
Eight Jay-Z songs were reportedly played at the Tuesday practice for the Miami Dolphins. The reason this is a big deal is because the team’s wide receiver, Kenny Stills, is one of a handful of players to blast Jay-Z for his partnership with the NFL.

Stills, one of the national anthem kneelers in the league, was sent a message loud and clear on Tuesday when eight tracks by Jay-Z were blasted during practice.
While Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores hasn’t publicly commented on the decision to play the rapper’s music, it has been reported that the coach does pick the music for practices, which likely means the decision was meant to send a direct message to Stills, who had criticized the new deal only days before.
“Dolphins say Brian Flores picks songs for practice. Practice opened today with 8 straight Jay-Z songs, day after Stills questioned J-Z approach in new role with NFL. Flores hasn’t explained reasoning, but team said Stills knew in advance,” Miami Herald sports reporter Barry Jackson tweeted about the practice.

“He’s not an NFL player. He’s never been on a knee,” Stills told reporters about Jay-Z’s deal with the NFL. During a press conference with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Jay-Z claimed that the controversies in regards to national anthem kneeling were in the past. This is a comment that seems to have rubbed many the wrong way, especially considering the rapper was previously so critical of the NFL and supportive of Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who kicked off the kneeling trend.
Jay-Z has partnered with the NFL to help pick entertainment for games, including the halftime show at the Super Bowl. He also claimed he will be advocating for social issues within the league, but that seems like empty talk. As conservative commentator Tomi Lahren pointed out following the deal, it has only ever been about the money for Jay-Z.
While there’s nothing wrong with money being a motivating factor, it’s important to note that Jay-Z is a Hillary Clinton supporter, avid liberal and he was such a strong supporter of Kaepernick that he claimed in a recent track that he turned down the opportunity to play the last Super Bowl halftime show because he was so upset with the league not giving Kaepernick a job.

Jay-Z claimed in his press conference that he had spoken to Kaepernick about the new deal, but the former quarterback’s longtime girlfriend went to Twitter to say this was a lie. Another report claimed Jay-Z had spoken to Kaepernick about the deal, but that it had not been a good conversation between the two.
“THIS is a lie. COLIN never spoke to Jay-Z and NFL ahead of that deal being done. They NEVER included him in any discussion,” Nessa Diab, Kaepernick’s girlfriend, tweeted.

While Kaepernick has not commented publicly on the deal, he has sent out tweets that suggest he is not in favor of it.
Today marks the three year anniversary of the first time I protested systemic oppression. I continue to work and stand with the people in our fight for liberation, despite those who are trying to erase the movement! The movement has always lived with the people! ✊🏾
