MSNBC accused of photoshopping blue check mark to give lefty tweet more clout

Besides continuing to spread irresponsible conspiracy theories, MSNBC is now reportedly also telling blatant, glaring lies.

Case in point: This week the far-left network shared a tweet on air from a contributor who works with Media Matters, a veritable extremist group that produces left-wing agitprop.

Except that instead of just sharing the tweet from contributor Bobby Lewis, the network appeared to add an otherwise non-existent blue checkmark to it so as to make it seem more credible.

But in real life — versus the imaginary world frequented by MSNBC’s own hash of contributors — the tweet doesn’t contain a blue check mark because Lewis isn’t a high-profile figure.

Look:

Even Lewis took note of MSNBC’s BS, as did others:

To make matters worse, the content of his original tweet is itself a blatant, glaring lie.

By taking words out of context, Lewis managed to convey the suggestion that conservative radio show host Michael Savage is displeased with President Donald Trump’s condemnation of white supremacy because he believes it’ll cost the president “thousands, if not tens of thousands, of votes.” The implication is that the president’s base is comprised of white supremacists. However, the full quote from Savage makes it clear this is a BS narrative.

“I was very disappointed in the president attacking white supremacy,” the radio show host had said. “He is now saying everyone who is concerned about the illegal alien invasion is a white supremacist? He suddenly has joined who? He’s like Jake Tapper now, and the rest on CNN. That was a mistake, Mr. President. I am sorry. That is going to cost you thousands, if not tens of thousands of votes.”

Savage was concerned that Trump’s condemnation of the white supremacist beliefs that led to the El Paso shooting would falsely be linked to conservative beliefs about illegal immigration.

Prior to the shooting, the suspect wrote a manifesto in which he ranted about both legal and illegal immigration — and likewise railed against Hispanic immigrants.

The left has falsely linked this sentiment to the president, despite it being a fact that a majority of Americans share Trump’s views on how illegal aliens should be dealt with.

Savage may have also been troubled by the president having neglected to mention that the El Paso shooter had also been motivated by far-left extremist beliefs vis-a-vis big corporations, environmental policy, overpopulation and other issues important to the Democrat Party.

The shooter even talked about the alleged similarities between the world seen in “The Lorax” — a children’s book by Dr. Seuss that some have argued has been used to indoctrinate children about the purported evils of corporations — and the world as it really exists.

“Water sheds around the country, especially in agricultural areas, are being depleted,” his manifesto reads. “Fresh water is being polluted from farming and oil drilling operations. Consumer culture is creating thousands of tons of unnecessary plastic waste and electronic waste, and recycling to help slow this down is almost non-existent.”

Returning to Lewis’s tweet, it was clearly a lie — one that was further magnified by MSNBC’s own lying habits. But this isn’t an anomaly. This is exactly how Media Matters has always been designed to work.

An in-depth investigation conducted by The Daily Caller in 2012 found that the group had been funneling unverified propaganda directly to the media.

“Media Matters was putting its own propaganda on the air via left-wing networks like MSNBC,” Front Page Magazine senior writer Jacob Laksin reported at the time in a summary of The Daily Caller’s findings.

“So minimal was the fact-checking and editorial supervision at MSNBC, apparently, that a Media Matters source boasted to the Daily Caller, ‘We were pretty much writing their prime time.’ Left-wing bloggers were even more willing to serve as mouthpieces for Media Matters, most notably Washington Post blogger Greg Sargent.”

“Embarrassingly for Sargent, Media Matters sources describe him as being so eager to rehash their editorials that the organization considered him a reliable dump for its content. As one source boasted to the Daily Caller, “If you can’t get it anywhere else, Greg Sargent’s always game.”

Seven years later, it appears the same thing is occurring, albeit more openly. Left-wing outlets like MSNBC and CNN now routinely cite Media Matters as a source, despite its sketchy history.

And as seen by MSNBC’s behavior this week, they’re clearly now also into sharing the group’s tweets … after the tweets have been Photoshopped, mind you.
