Democratic Gaffe Machine Joe Biden continued his role as the unofficial chairman of the Trump 2020 re-election campaign by making back-to-back blunders that spotlight that he’s not ready to take on Donald Trump on a debate stage (or any other stage, for that matter).
While campaigning in Des Moines, Iowa, Biden was asked who was his favorite historical figure who was not a president.
Biden stammered (see video starting at 41:56): “In terms of political figures, maybe my favorite political figure…I would have to say, it is those people who gave America hope. Made them believe in who we are. You said not a president. I’d have to start off with [Thomas] Jefferson, even though he didn’t live up to it. He’s the guy that wrote that incredible document.”
For the record, Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States, and the “incredible document” he wrote was the Declaration of Independence.
At a separate event in Iowa before the Asian & Latino Coalition, Joe Biden accidentally made the racist suggestion that all poor kids are minorities.
Biden said: “We should challenge students in these [lower-income] schools and have advanced placement programs in these schools. We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids.”
Biden then tried to clean up his mess by quickly adding, “wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids. No, I really mean it, but think how we think about it. We think how we’re going to dumb it down. They can do anything anybody else can do given a shot.”

Many on Twitter pointed out that Biden has a long history of making accidental racist statements while trying to pander to minorities. In 2007, Biden said one of the reasons why so many schools in Washington, D.C. fail is because of the city’s high black population.
Biden on why some schools perform better than others: "There's less than 1% of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than 4 or 5% that are minorities. What is in [D.C.]? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you're dealing with." pic.twitter.com/A5gR18rXua

According to the latest YouGov poll, Joe Biden leads the Democratic presidential field by 6 points.
The YouGov poll surveyed 1,500 U.S. adult citizens from August 3 to 6. Among black voters, Biden remains the favorite, with 33% saying Joe is their first choice. Warren came in second at 13%, while Sanders was third at 10%.

Flashback: In May, Biden creeped out a 10-year-old girl by cooing that he thinks she’s as bright as she is good-looking while massaging her shoulders at a town hall.
In response to a question the little girl had asked, Biden bent down, got inches from her face and replied: “I’m going to write you a longer answer and tell you the exact things I would do, okay? I’ll bet you’re as bright as you are good-looking.”
