At least he’s not a coward …
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio made history Wednesday evening by becoming the only Democrat presidential to sit with Fox News host Sean Hannity for a lively discussion.
It’s unlikely that any of his peers — particularly Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who’s described Fox as a “hate-for-profit” network (though that description seems to fit CNN more than Fox) — will follow suit, though a few have participated in Fox-hosted town halls.
But just because de Blasio was humble enough to sit with a Fox News host didn’t mean he wasn’t about to take shots at the network, which is widely hated by the left for being the only network willing to approach the news from a conservative (versus liberal) angle.
At one point in his heated discussion with Hannity, the NYC mayor accused outright accused the network of perpetrating a “charade” in which it allegedly distracts Americans from the “real issues.”

The “charade” remark was made during a discussion on illegal immigration. Echoing the sentiment of most conservatives, Hannity said that so-called “comprehensive immigration reform” should only be addressed after the border is thoroughly secured via a wall.
De Blasio replied by accusing the host of perpetrating a charade. Despite evidence showing that a border wall would reduce illegal immigration, the left has and continues to try to claim that it’d do nothing to actually stop the flow of illegals across the border — that it’d just be a “charade.”
But instead of repeating this often-heard refrain, for some reason the mayor started to talk about the one percent …
Below is a transcript of the two’s discussion:
De Blasio: “Do you want comprehensive immigration reform — what about those 11 million people?”
Hannity: “After we build the wall and secure our borders, my answer is absolutely, we give those highly coveted slots to the people that respect our laws.”
De Blasio: “This is why it’s such a charade. It is a charade, stop it. What your network does too often is try to distract people …”
Hannity: “My network? By the way, there are people on my network who don’t like a single thing I say!”
De Blasio: “And God bless them. I agree you are not a monolith, but too much of the time what Fox and News Corp do is try to take people’s minds off the fact that they’re being screwed economically by the one percent.”
Hannity: “After the lightning round … we are going to get back to that. I promise.”
De Blasio: “You’re honestly going to tell me why it’s OK that the one percent is paying less and less in taxes?”
Hannity: “We’ll get back to immigration, we’re going to get back to taxes.”
De Blasio: “Mmm hmm. I’ll be watching.”
Perhaps he should spend more time watching his own city, where he’s reportedly less popular than his veritable arch-nemesis, President Donald Trump.
Just to be clear, the evidence doesn’t show the working class being “screwed” by the so-called one percent. It shows the working class benefiting from higher wages and more job opportunities thanks to the president’s deregulation, tax cuts and economic reform.
In fact, Trump’s economy is working to their benefit far more than former Democrat President Barack Hussein Obama’s economy ever did, according to The Wall Street Journal.
“Time to wake up from the Barack Obama economy, folks, and admit how many more Americans are prospering from the faster economic growth and tighter labor market after the policy changes of 2017,” the paper’s editorial board bluntly wrote in an op-ed last month.
Returning to the discussion on Fox, the two did finally address immigration, during which de Blasio argued that there’s “no invasion” of thousands of illegal aliens streaming across the border.
“Do you support walls on our border?” Hannity asked.
“I support border security but not walls,” de Blasio replied. “I don’t think we need additional walls, because look, there’s 11 million people here right now.”
“This is what I don’t get about the whole discussion on this network and a lot of other places. Eleven million people are here. They’ve been here for decades. This is the biggest don’t ask, don’t tell in American history? Why are we allowing ourselves to be divided as a people when this already happened? There’s no invasion. There’s people here already who’re a part of our community.”
While at least 11 million are already here, more keep crossing into the United States — thus pushing that 11 million higher and higher — thanks to America’s lax border security. This is a fact.
Security is so lax that “migrants” in Latin America regularly form gigantic caravans and march to the southern U.S. border with the full intent to cross into the U.S. illegally, knowing full well that there isn’t much to stop them, save for scattered groups of U.S. Border Patrol agents.
Listen to this part of the discussion below:
While de Blasio shared a lot of misinformation and talked a lot of trash during his appearance on Fox, at least he had the courage to show up and debate fairly.
Many of his peers in the Democrat primary would rather fear-monger over how FNC’s willingness to broach the topic of illegal immigration is inciting white supremacist extremism.
We need to call it out: Fox News is a hate-for-profit machine that gives a megaphone to racists and conspiracists. https://t.co/f1QkIE7sbB

A victim’s wife asked me, “How do we change this?”
In addition to universal background checks, a ban on the sale of weapons of war, & red flag laws, we have got to acknowledge the hatred and open racism we’re seeing on Fox News, on the internet, and from our Commander-in-Chief. https://t.co/YNc73D38pC
