Former Vice President Joe Biden conveniently ignored his own past as he leveled astounding accusations against President Trump as a racist.
The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate brought up the Ku Klux Klan in a discussion about Trump with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Monday while weighing in on the two mass shootings in the U.S. over the weekend.
“This is a president who has said things no other president has said since Andrew Jackson,’ Biden said on “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” referring to the seventh President of the United States. “Nobody said anything like the things he’s saying.”
“We went through this before in the ’20s with the Ku Klux Klan, 50,000 people walking down Pennsylvania Avenue in pointed hats and robes because they, in fact, decided they didn’t want any Catholics coming into the country,” Biden continued. “We went through it after the Civil War in terms of the Ku Klux Klan and white supremacy.”
What the former vice president did not bring up in his attack on Trump were his own questionable acts in the past as less than a decade ago, he eulogized the late Senator Robert Byrd who was an officer in the KKK.

“Although I and my colleagues behind me revered the Senate, Robert C. Byrd elevated the Senate,” Biden said in his remarks during his eulogy of the West Virginia Democrat back in 2010.
Although Byrd was a KKK Kleagle, recruiting new members to the group, he later regretted his affiliation.

But Biden made no mention of his past connection with the senator and went on to trash Trump in his denouncement of the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.
“This is about separating people and the good and bad in his mind. It is about making — it’s about an access to power. It’s a trait used by charlatans all over the world. Divide people, divide them, pit them against one another,” he said.
Cooper noted that “it is a very dangerous game then that he’s playing.”
“Oh, no, there’s no question it’s a dangerous game,” the 2020 contender replied.
“There is no question that his rhetoric has contributed to, at a minimum, of dumbing down the way in which we as a society talk about one another, the way — we’ve always been — look, we’ve always brought the country together,” he said.
“He flies in the face of all of the basic things that we’ve never really met the standard, we’ve never abandoned before,” Biden continued his criticism of Trump. “He looks like he just flat abandoned the theory that we are one people.”
Biden has repeatedly forgotten the adage about those in glass houses not throwing stones, as he has fired off attacks on Trump while his own past has come back to haunt him. He was recently criticized for his work with segregationist lawmakers when he was a senator.

Biden chose the moment Trump addressed a grieving nation in the wake of back-to-back shootings to make a disgusting political point.
Let’s be very clear. You use the office of the presidency to encourage and embolden white supremacy. You use words like “infestation” and “invasion” to talk about human beings. We won’t truly speak with one voice against hatred until your voice is no longer in the White House. https://t.co/CW3wxxTm2E

But his attempts to blast Trump and, like his fellow Democrats, somehow hold the president responsible for the tragedies over the weekend, were slammed by plenty of Twitter users.
Joe Biden, you represents the party that created White Supremacy, used to intimidate Black people. It wasn’t that long ago that you admitted to reaching across the aisle to segregationists, but you didn’t have to reach far because all of you were part of the Democrat party…… https://t.co/tyRfuf7JpA

Does the name Robert Byrd ring a bell, @joebiden?

Says the man from the party that started the KKK, wanted to keep slavery, and voted against equal rights for Blacks in the 60s. You also had Robert Byrd, KKK grand poobah in your party.
Spare us your holier then thou speech Joe. Aren’t you the one groping women…

@LauraPodestaTV @JoeBiden @BetoORourke & the rest of the washed out Democrats are blaming white supremacist on @realDonaldTrump. Lmao the party of RACIST KKK Robert Byrd, sky rocket Black unemployment, KKK Governor Ralph Northam. My Black self will ride the #TrumpTrain2020 again.

I totally agree with you. I’m watching CNN and MSNBC today, and they are calling the President a racist and white nationalist. The guy is 75 yrs old and has absolutely no history or association with that. Biden and Hilary said Robert Byrd was their mentor….

Biden is certainly old enough to remember when the KKK was an active part of the Democrat Party, but I question his ability to recall facts correctly. Showing definite signs of senility.

Pssst… Joe…. KKK was founded by your side not Trump’s Republican party. Didn’t your mom ever teach you not to exaggerate ridiculous ideas that hold no factual basis! And you feel qualified to lead our country. I think not.
