Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey copped an attitude on social media this week after House Freedom Caucus chair Rep. Mark Meadows called him out for his silence.
“As the IG report on Comey approaches, we’re getting the sound of silence,” Meadows wrote critically of Comey in a tweet late Thursday evening. “No Comey tweets. No softball interviews. Must be tougher when you get questioned by a DOJ Inspector General. The truth is coming. His actions will come to light. And the verdict won’t be pretty.”

Less than an hour later, an irate Comey fired back:
I love transparency. I just wait for facts before I talk about them. I’m confident the results of all IG reports will show honest public servants worked hard to protect this country from a threat this president and his enablers won’t acknowledge. And @ me next time, bruh. https://t.co/0yTNgV2K4F

The tweets were posted amid unconfirmed reports that Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz has reached some damning conclusions about Comey’s behavior during his final days as FBI director.
According to investigative journalist John Solomon, Horowitz has found that, during his final months in office in early 2017, the then-FBI director improperly and illegally took home with him classified memos and then transmitted them to a friend via an unsecured email account.
“The memos, which mostly recount Comey’s interactions with Trump in the Russia case and include information about foreign leaders, were sensitive enough to require government officials to send a professional ‘scrub team’ to a Comey lawyer’s office to ensure all classified information was deleted, sources previously told me,” Solomon revealed in a report published Wednesday.
“In addition, the IG is likely to find that Comey engaged in a lack of candor when FBI agents came to retrieve the classified memos in his possession, failing to tell the interviewing agent that he had forwarded some of the sensitive memos by email, according to sources familiar with the probe.”
Solomon also claimed that Horowitz has referred Comey for prosecution but that Attorney General Bill Barr has, for the time being, chosen to decline the referral over “a lack of evidence of intent.”
But some believe the AG has declined prosecution because he’s aiming for something bigger. They point specifically to U.S. Attorney John Durham’s ongoing investigation into the origins of the Russia probe. It’s believed the findings of this probe, which admittedly just began last spring, will be far more consequential — to the point that some people, including Comey, could wind up in jail.
One believer of this theory went so far as to yell “you’re going to get locked up” to Comey’s face during a book signing last year:

All of this isn’t to say that Horowitz’s reported findings have no relevance. They certainly do, in that they’ve established a pattern of behavior by Comey — a pattern that could help explain some of his actions vis-à-vis the launch of the Russia collusion probe.
“[T]he IG report, at least, reaffirms what has become painfully clear to Americans the past two years: Comey entered the FBI chief’s job with a reputation for excellence but ran a bureau that suffered from ineptitude, political shenanigans, leaking and significant human failings, all of which sharply contrast with the morality lectures he’s become famous for frequently offering since he was fired,” Solomon noted in his report.
What remains to be answered — and is being investigated right now by Durham — are questions of why Comey had allowed the infamous Steele dossier to be used to secure multiple FISA surveillance warrants against President Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign team members.
“He’s got a day of reckoning coming on leaking, but there is more ahead besides this,” Solomon predicted during an appearance on Fox News earlier this week.
He’s not alone in feeling like this. In response to Comey’s cocky tweet, an army of social media critics rushed to their keyboards Thursday night and Friday morning to remind him that his smug attitude won’t save him if and when the so-called “day of reckoning” finally arrives:

Feeling cocky there Jim.
Think just because Barr gave you a pass on memo leaking , your safe.
Think again Jimmy, your charges will be treason.
You don’t get a free pass for the crimes you committed.— mary orthodoxou @patriottiger (@OrthodoxouMary) August 2, 2019
That’s a pretty ballsy tweet for a guy under investigation. I think I will bookmark this for when you get indicted.

You should be in Gitmo sir

Trump is such a threat that the entire might of the US government was unleashed on him based on a fraudulent ‘dossier’ paid for by Hillary Clinton and you guys still couldn’t name a crime or indict him. You’re a failure and a criminal who belongs in prison.

I listened to your testimony before a Congressional committee. You freely, willingly provided your ‘friend’ in the media with confidential intel relating to an ongoing investigation.
Law and oath broken.

Bruh, transparency will not be your friend. You’ll be let off for leaks bc much bigger things are coming down the pike. I hope you’re good with that. “This” President is rightfully elected despite 4K of Russian FB ads & illegal surveillance you enabled.

Like the latter Twitter user noted, there are indeed “bigger things coming down the pike.”
