CNN chief Zucker reportedly introduced Kamala Harris to NY political elite in 2009: ’Really knocked our socks off’

While it’s all but a given that CNN is biased against President Donald Trump, after all, the network practically dedicates 24/7 coverage to destroying the president, but does CNN president Jeff Zucker have a favorite in the crowded Democratic Party field?

Despite a longstanding, much talked about personal policy about not supporting politicians, it’s being reported that Zucker hosted a breakfast for Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif, to introduce her to the political elite in New York.

The breakfast took place in 2009, when Zucker was head of NBC Universal — Harris was running for attorney general in California at the time.

“Kamala is not just important for the city of San Francisco, the state of California, but for the entire country,” he told the guests at the breakfast at NBC’s Rockefeller Plaza, according to McClatchy.

Zucker, who was quoted as saying Harris “really knocked our socks off,” understood just how big the decision was.

“This is in fact, the first time I’ve ever done one of these, and that’s because I have a very, very strict policy because of my job,” he said at the event. “I’ve taken a position that I completely stay out of supporting candidates of any party and try to stay out of politics entirely.”

As expected, the network downplayed the connection.

“Jeff hosted a small breakfast in New York for Kamala Harris when she was the District Attorney of San Francisco,” said CNN chief spokesperson Allison Gollust. “He was then CEO of NBC Universal, and was introducing the DA to some of his colleagues in an informal setting. He has seen her a handful of times in the last 10 years, all in his capacity as a journalist. His relationship with the senator is no different than any other national politician, and he has never endorsed her, or anyone, in any capacity.”

CNN hosts this week’s Democratic primary debate, with Harris once again expected to lock horns with former Vice President Joe Biden, who still leads in the polls. How the exchanges are handled will now take on added scrutiny.

One of the top tier candidates, it’s not out of the question that Harris could be the Democratic nominee and face President Donald Trump in the general election — and face off against him in a debate on CNN.

Jeffrey Lord, a former CNN commentator and Trump supporter, suggested that the president would surely use the relationship between Harris and Zucker as fodder.

“I could just see the tweets tumbling out now, I have no doubt about that,” Lord told McClatchy. “If she becomes the nominee he would certainly go after that. Even if she doesn’t become the nominee, he would probably toy with that.”

Here’s a quick sampling of how the news of the Zucker-Harris tie went over on social media:
