Former special counsel Robert Mueller’s anemic performance testifying before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees earlier this week engendered one rather unexpected but quite serendipitous side effect: It made former Vice President “Sleepy” Joe Biden look more awake than an owl.
Or so says President Donald Trump.
Speaking Thursday evening on Fox News about the ongoing Democrat presidential primaries, the president noted that while Biden hasn’t been performing so well — particularly in the Democrat debates — Mueller’s piss-poor performance left him looking like a champ.
“I could say that obviously the top three or four look like they’re doing better than the rest, so ‘Sleepy’ Joe is OK, but he’s fading. I think he’s fading fast,” he said.
“The only good thing about Mueller is it made Joe Biden look like a dynamo. … I think probably Biden’s the one who asked him to go on.”
Listen via FNC’s “Hannity“:
Was Mueller’s performance really that bad? Yes!
Even the liberal media pundits who’d spent years practically worshiping at his altar panned his performance as “wobbly,” “shaky” and just “underwhelming” to the max.
“I have to say that far from breathing life into the report, he kind of sucked the life out of the report,” MSNBC contributor and former Obama administration official Jeremy Bash opined Wednesday.
“I thought he was boring. I thought in some cases he was sort of evasive, he didn’t want to explain or expand on his rationale. He seemed lost at times, he was kind of flipping through the report trying to find passages that members of Congress were reading to him.”
Bash is the same pundit who only weeks earlier argued that Mueller had “shredded the credibility” of the president.

Even MSNBC talking head Rachel Maddow — one of the most notorious Russian collusion delusion conspiracy theorists — threw Mueller under the bus after Wednesday’s hearings, describing him as nothing more than a “distant figurehead.”
Bash and Maddow were by no means alone in their stinging criticism:
A frail old man, unable to remember things, stumbling, refusing to answer basic questions…I said it in 2017 and Mueller confirmed it today — All you pundits and moderates and lame Dems who told the public to put their faith in the esteemed Robert Mueller — just STFU from now on

Chris Wallace nailed it; “This has been a disaster for the Democrats and a disaster for the reputation of Robert Mueller…He doesnt seem to know things that are in the report … I think it does raise questions about the degree to which he actually was in charge and control”

What’s striking about these criticisms is they match so closely with the criticisms that have being made about Biden — that he’s low-energy, dull, boring, etc. The criticism reached a fevered pitch after the first round of Democrat primary debates last month.
A survey of “experts” by Politico Magazine at the time found that most believed the former VP had “dated himself,” “unperformed” and been “eaten alive.”
“Biden has been a front runner, but he underperformed in the crowded field and dated himself in several moments with his language and examples, which might not serve him well in an election year that is expected to see an unprecedented number of young voters,” one expert said.
“He seemed lost in his responses,” another added. “He was eaten alive by Harris’ ‘that little girl was me’ line, and he spent a good chunk of his time defending his antagonism to busing. It will be a slow (or fast) glide-path out of first place for him. The contours of the race are becoming clear, and they likely don’t involve Joe Biden.”
He’s even been described as the Jeb Bush of 2020. During the 2016 GOP presidential primaries, then-GOP candidate Trump frequently mocked Bush for being so “low-energy.”
Nevertheless, Biden continues to command the lead in the 2020 Democrat presidential nomination polls. However, the president was correct to note that he’s fading. Whereas polling averages maintained by RealClearPolitics had him at 41.2 percent as recently as May 12, he’s now down to an average of just 29.3 percent. That’s a “yuge” drop.

While the decline has been mostly steady, it hastened noticeably right after the first round of debates in late June. Even the president was critical of the former VP at the time.
“I am in Japan at the G-20, representing our Country well, but I heard it was not a good day for Sleepy Joe or Crazy Bernie. One is exhausted, the other is nuts – so what’s the big deal?” he tweeted the morning after the debate.

He did however later wind up coming to Biden’s defense, telling reporters a day later that he felt that Sen. Kamala Harris’s attacks on his past were unfair.
Pres. Trump on Biden-Harris exchange: “He didn’t do well, certainly, & maybe the facts weren’t necessarily on his side. I think she was given too much credit… It wasn’t that outstanding & I think he was probably hit harder than he should have been hit.” https://t.co/hBZDJADWTF pic.twitter.com/TnswCngjDh
