Sean Duffy shreds SunTrust CEO for terminating funds to holding facilities: You want kids sent into the streets?

While the Democrats and Republicans on the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees spent Wednesday grilling former special counsel Robert Mueller, over at the House Financial Services Committee member Rep. Sean Duffy spent it excoriating SunTrust Banks CEO William H. Rogers Jr.

Duffy’s beef with Rogers lay with the CEO’s decision earlier this month to terminate SunTrust’s business relationships with the companies that run illegal alien detention facilities on behalf of the U.S. federal government.

“Following an ongoing and deliberate process, SunTrust has decided not to provide future financing to companies that manage private prisons and immigration holding facilities,” the bank said in a statement at the time. “This decision was made after extensive consideration of the views of our stakeholders on this deeply complex issue.”

The decision coincided with the far-left’s abrupt outrage over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s illegal alien detention facilities, which were faultlessly described at time by liberal Democrats  as “concentration camps.”

Dovetailing back to the hearing Wednesday, Duffy began his interrogation of Rogers by asking the SunTrust CEO whether his company’s newfound policy is fair.

Watch the confrontation below:

“You have policies in your bank that say, ‘If we have detention facilities that are caring for children or detaining individuals who we may not know who they are following American law … I’m not going to bank them.’ Is that fair?” the Wisconsin congressman asked.

“We consider a variety of factors …,” Rogers replied.

“Is it fair?” Duffy continued pressing, only to be hit with the same non-answer answer. “Is it fair? Let me ask you, do you think that detention facilities are concentration camps? Yes or no?”

“I’ve never used that characterization,” the CEO replied.

“How about ICE? Are ICE Nazis?” the congressman pressed.

Congressional Democrats have also posited grossly false equivalences between the federal government’s detention of illegal aliens and the Nazis murder of six+ million Jews.

“I’ve never used that characterization,” the CEO replied, repeating his previous statement verbatim.

“So you have ICE and you have some of their contractors that are following American law, and … you’re like, ‘I want open borders. I don’t want us to detain anyone in America. Open borders. Let everyone come in without any process.’ Is that your position at SunTrust?”

The evidence suggests this is indeed the bank’s position, though Rogers denied it.

“Representative, we’re not taking a social position. … Representative, we consider a variety of different factors in reaching those conclusions related to the status of that business, the credit worthiness, the survivability of those businesses,” he said.

Duffy was not convinced.

You are taking a social position when you say you won’t bank detention facilities,” he declared. “So a contract with the U.S. government, you don’t think is a good risk? You’re making a social policy judgment, and you’re saying, because I was protested, or because I have a social viewpoint, I’m not going to bank a detention facility that, by the way, some of them hold minors, and we don’t know where to send these children.”

“We have to wait and find an adult who will take the child. Do you want us to send them on to the streets? And you say, ‘No, no, I’m not going to fund a detention facility that might hold kids before we can find an adult to take the child. That’s opposed to our social policy.’ Or, ‘I don’t know who’s come in — are they terrorists, are they drug dealers, are they gang members? We don’t want America to hold them. We want them released in our communities.’ That’s the position of your bank, and that concerns me.”

That’s certainly the position of the far-left, whose members have made it clear they want the Department of Homeland Security abolished altogether and the detention and deportation of illegal aliens stopped permanently. This would in turn essentially make America an open-borders nation.

And by taking the far-left’s side, SunTrust has, it would appear, decided that it too wants America to be an open-borders nation that prioritizes the concerns of illegal aliens over those of the country’s rightful citizens. And well, if this is the hill the bank wants to die on, then good luck …
