A third disturbing video has surfaced showing uniformed New York City cops being assaulted by crowds dumping and throwing buckets of water over them. The big question is, who’s running the asylum in New York City?
With Democrats’ anti-police rhetoric fueling outrageously disrespectful attacks like these in New York, not to mention ongoing violent attacks against law enforcement officers across the country, a line is being crossed that bodes danger for all law-abiding citizens.
“This looks like it’s becoming a disgusting trend,” said one police source, as quoted by the New York Post. “You’re going to see this happening all over the city now, everyone trying for one-upsmanship.”
“We are approaching the point of no return,” New York City Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch said in a statement on Monday. “Our anti-cop lawmakers have gotten their wish: the NYPD is now frozen. It’s not the fault of these police officers. It’s the end result of the torrent of bad policies and anti-police rhetoric that has been streaming out of City Hall and Albany for years now.”
“Disorder controls the streets, and our elected leaders refuse to allow us to take them back. As police officers, we need to draw a line.”
The union president said officers cannot just walk away and allow themselves and the uniform to be abused. “In situations like this, we need to take action to protect ourselves and the public,” he stated. “The politicians may not care about the dangerous levels of chaos in our neighborhoods, but police officers and decent New Yorkers should not be forced to suffer.”
This latest in a series of videos begins with more than a dozen young people, including a pre-teen girl, yelling and cavorting on a street corner, as two female officers are across the street watching a school. The group crosses the street carrying buckets of water and super-soaker squirt guns. Even as the cops retreat, they are doused with the water while they apparently say or do nothing in response.
Police indicated that this latest incident is believed to have happened in the Bronx, though they did not say when.
Previous recent videos showed similar water-bucket attacks on cops in Brooklyn and Harlem.
After the first two incidents, NYPD Chief Terence Monohan pleaded with cops not to walk away from such attacks. ““Any cop who thinks that that’s all right — that they can walk away from something like that — maybe should reconsider whether or not this is the profession for them,” he said. “We don’t take that.”
“Our detectives — and our detectives are the greatest in the world — are looking and we will identify who was involved, and arrests will be made,” Monahan said on Tuesday. “That is not acceptable to our men and women who are out there.”
On Wednesday, Monahan was able to report that a known gang member who was involved in the Brooklyn assault was arrested …
