Bette Midler buried in backlash for racist tweet, reduces African American Trump supporters to the ‘blackground’

Bette Midler’s latest jab at President Trump proved too much for social media where the entertainer was slammed for being “racist.”

A tweet leveled at Trump supporters earned Midler major backlash on Twitter Wednesday with instant condemnation for her suggestion that the “African American men” in a photo at a Trump rally were paid props for the event “blackground.”

“Look, there are African American men in this shot! How much did he pay them to be ‘blackground?’” Midler tweeted to her nearly 1.7 million followers along with the rally image.

The 73-year-old singer and actress has been a vocal critic of the president but her tweet offended scores of Twitter users who were appalled at her “sick” and “disgusting” remark.

“How dare Midler dismiss these grown black men as props for hire, rather than sapient citizens who support the candidate of their choice?” Fox News contributor Deroy Murdock said Wednesday.

“And why shouldn’t they? Thanks to the Trump/GOP tax cuts, black unemployment is near record lows, and average real wages for blacks are up 3.3 percent over the last 12 months, the Dallas Federal Reserve reports,” he told Fox News. “Also, President Trump’s criminal-justice reform disproportionately benefits blacks.”

“In 2016, 13 percent of black men voted for Donald J. Trump. If the president can improve those numbers a bit, and boost his standing among black women, he vastly will increase his chances for re-election,” Murdock added. “Midler surely would hate to see President Trump returned to the White House. But for this black man, it would be nice to have him back where he belongs.”

Midler, who recently starred in the Broadway revival of “Hello, Dolly!” has not held back her disdain for the president, frequently tweeting insults and commentary such as last month when she shared a fake quote by Trump, prompting the president to call her out as “a “washed-up psycho.”

Midler later apologized for the tweet, but still found a way to blame Trump.

Her latest rant included a tweet during Wednesday’s Congressional hearing with Robert Mueller, claiming Trump “will be in Moscow before” he can be charged with a crime. She added a twisted “poem” to her day’s commentary, which included an all-caps entreaty to Puerto Rico to “secede” from the U.S. in the midst of political turmoil unfolding there.

The outcry over her “racist” tweet about Trump supporters continued to reverberate for hours after her post.
