Thanks to criminal justice reform efforts by President Donald Trump, a man whom both Democrats and their media allies insist is an unrepentant racist, thousands of black Americans are in the process of being released from federal custody and allowed to return home to their families.
Speaking Monday about these releases, black entrepreneur and political commentator David J. Harris Jr. made it a point to note that these releases are occurring because of Trump, not in spite of him.
Listen:
“I don’t know who could watch this and not tear up,” his commentary, which he shared in a video uploaded to Twitter, began.
After playing a clip of one of the released inmates returning home to his family, Harris continued by saying, “Folks, that is just one example of thousands of inmates that have been released due to Donald Trump’s prison reform. And most of them are black. There are families all over the country that are celebrating this past week as their loved ones are being returned home to them.”
“I think it’s amazing that President Donald Trump shared that video,” he added.
The president did indeed share the video — but on Instagram, not Twitter:
“You know what’s even better?” Harris continued. “He’s the one that pushed for prison reform. Now let me ask you, if he was really prejudiced, if he was really racist, once he got into office, why do you think he would push for a prison reform bill that would be so beneficial to black communities?”
“I really hope Americans start waking up, because while so much of America is drenched in the vitriol and the hatred and the racism that we’re getting from mainstream media, families just like this are celebrating — and they’re celebrating because of our president!”
Fact-check: True.
“Over 3,100 federal prison inmates will be released from the Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) custody as a result of the increase in good conduct time under the Act,” the Department of Justice announced last Friday, citing the president’s First Step Act.
“In addition, the Act’s retroactive application of the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 (reducing the disparity between crack cocaine and powder cocaine threshold amounts triggering mandatory minimum sentences) has resulted in 1,691 sentence reductions.”

Of course, passing the First Step Act was not a quick one-man operation. It was a year-long effort that often involved the president collaborating with some of the most noted black figures in contemporary America, including rapper Kanye West and CNN political commentator Van Jones.
The bill was crafted over the course of 2018 thanks to bipartisan discussions between Trump; his daughter, Ivanka; his step-son, Jared Kushner; and left-wing criminal justice reform activists like West and Jones.
Had these diverse sets of personalities not come together, the bill likely would have never been drafted, let alone signed and passed into law.
Like Jones correctly noted during a speech at CPAC two months ago, “I’ve never seen a bird fly with only a left wing. I’ve never seen a bird fly with only a right wing.”
“The Republican Party and the conservative movement believes in the idea of liberty, which is limited government and respect for individual rights and dignity. And at our best [as liberals], we believe in the concept of justice — making sure that the little folks don’t get run over by the big folks.”
“We tell our kids liberty and justice for all because I’ve never seen a bird that can fly with only a left wing, not even in Berkeley. I’ve never seen a bird fly with only a left wing. I’ve never seen a bird fly only with a right wing, not even in Mississippi. We need each other.”
Give the man his due: @realDonaldTrump is on his way to becoming the uniter-in-Chief on an issue that has divided America for generations. But the modern left — which some call the “regressive left” — appears to disagree with this idea of working with people whom you don’t see eye to eye. In fact, the left’s strategy seems to be to just label anyone with an opposing thought a “racist” and “bigot.”
It’s to the point that almost everybody has been labeled a “racist,” including even members of the left themselves, i.e., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Vice President Joe Biden.
And the same goes Trump, whose every action and every trash-talking tweet and every word has been portrayed as yet another sign of his alleged racism.
Except of course for his act of signing the First Step Act into law — this is one action that says so much, but that his critics insist on ignoring. But just because they’re ignoring it doesn’t mean the rest of America is as well.
David you are so so correct on this! There’s no racism from our POTUS! LEFTIST DEMS can’t stand for the country as we know it can be governed so well under a man that is not and I repeat that is not a lifetime politician! So go pound sand DEMS along with your mod squad!!! #TRUMP

Has any dem politician try to free prisoners that were not violent crimes? NO, they free illegals over and over again. Hopefully, some dems will see that Trump is not racist…….if he was he would not have pardon 3 black people?

Love Trump and I want to see all races come together and ALL be able to succeed in America. It’s not about giving away free stuff….it’s about giving opportunities for every race to succeed and live the American dream. Loved this video and wish these people the absolute best❤️
