Rep. Doug Collins doubled down on his criticism of the spectacle Democrats put on display as they presented a resolution condemning President Trump.
The Georgia Republican told “Fox & Friends” that Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s speech on the House floor Tuesday was “clearly over the line,” noting how the title of the resolution itself violated the rules.

“When you come to the House floor, it is a place of dignity, it is a place of decorum and it is a place where we debate the most serious issues of our time,” Collins said Wednesday. “I don’t believe this issue yesterday, this resolution, was there for any other reason except a political jab at our president.”
“If we don’t maintain decorum on this floor, then we devolve into something that we don’t want to be,” he added, referring to Tuesday’s chaotic events in the lower chamber.
The Democrat-controlled House voted along party lines to pass the resolution condemning the president for his comments against four freshmen Democratic congresswomen. But that vote came after a breakdown over Pelosi’s speech, to which Collins had raised an objection.

“I have cleared my remarks with the parliamentarian before I read them,” Pelosi fired back after the Georgia Republican asked if she would “rephrase” her comments attacking Trump as House rules state that remarks on the floor avoid personality and be relevant to the debate.
“Can I ask the words be taken down? I make a point of order that the gentlewoman’s words are unparliamentary and be taken down,” Collins said Tuesday, prompting the chair, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, to eventually abandon his post rather than confront Pelosi.
“When it came to this, it was clearly over the line,” Collins told Fox News Wednesday, discussing how the House then voted not to strike Pelosi’s words from the record. In another vote, the powerful Democrat leader’s speaking privileges were restored as well, having been revoked by Majority Leader Steny Hoyer who stepped in as chair.
“What is sad for the American people, in their political vendetta to get this president, they actually passed a resolution that they cannot read on the floor of the House,” Collins, who does not think Trump’s comments about the lawmakers were racist, said of the Democrats.
“That shows you bad this is,” he added, noting that House rules prohibit the reading of the title of the resolution, “Condemning President Trump’s racist comments directed at Members of Congress,” because it ascribes a “motive” to the president by calling him “racist.”
“This is nothing but to get the president, to make a mockery of their own leadership abilities because they don’t like this president,” he said.
“She could have shown leadership, which she did not,” Collins said of Pelosi. “Instead, she forced her party to actually join her in violating the House rules so that no punishment’s attached.
Collins also spoke out about the breakdown in communication between Pelosi and the so-called “squad” of freshman Democrats, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.

“This idea that their teams are talking really shows you the chaos,” he said, noting that their rhetoric shows the House “is broken right now and why the president is leading.”
“We in the House have to maintain the decorum that we have,” Collins added, noting that the Democratic party has had to effectively embrace the socialist ideas of their more radical members which shows their “very self-centered” positions.
Collins concluded that Pelosi seems to be in a “co-speakership” position with the four freshman Democrats and the entire party is still in denial over the 2016 election.
“They don’t like the president, they don’t like the good economy, they don’t like the things that are happening. They believe the November 2016 election was a farce,” he said. “But one thing is true: the president is still president and we’re moving forward and they are in chaos.”
