Kellyanne Conway says Cummings contempt threat doesn’t scare her, snubs bogus Hatch Act hearing, again

House Oversight and Reform Committee chair Rep. Elijah Cummings has just about had it with Kellyanne Conway’s blatant defiance of a subpoena, and refusing to testify before the committee about alleged Hatch Act violations.

As he called the hearing to order, Cummings gave himself 5 minutes to make an opening statement.

“Today the Committee was scheduled to hear testimony from Miss Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, about her repeated violations of federal laws. This is the second time in three weeks our committee has attempted to obtain her testimony. We invited her to appear voluntarily at a hearing on June 26th but she refused. Committee then voted to authorize a subpoena to compel her to testify here today. In defiance of that subpoena, Miss Conway is again refusing to appear.”

Cummings then goes on to accuse Kellyanne of abusing her “position of trust,” referencing back to a March 2017 recommendation by the Office of Government Ethics to “discipline” Conway for allegedly “promoting Ivanka Trump’s personal business” on Fox & Friends.

In winding up his remarks, Cummings issues a blatant threat: “We hope Miss Conway will reconsider, but if not … we will … hold her in contempt.”

In a Monday night interview with Sean Hannity, Conway seems cool and collected, and not the least bit worried about defying her aforementioned subpoena.

“I don’t think you look too worried,” said the Fox News host. “I’ve known you for many years, you’ve been on the show many areas, you don’t look particularly concerned.”

While she noted that she’s not particularly concerned about the hearings, there is something that is bothering her.

“I’m concerned that there is such a politicization and weaponization of this thing called the Hatch Act,” Conway admits. “If you go back and look at some of the things that are in the original report, they are just ripped from the headlines, they’re not my opinions.”

Hannity then boldly asserts that Kellyanne’s big crime has nothing to do with the Hatch Act, but rather the act of supporting President Trump.

“I’ve got to tell you what you’re guilty of. You like the president,” Hannity said. “You like the president, this is the treatment anybody gets.”

Kellyanne then took it a step further, suggesting that her effectiveness makes her a threat to the left.

“I’m also effective in explaining his policies to Americans,” she noted. “Everybody knows that….they are just mad — they know that I helped the president who got elected all by himself but I’m still here talking about his policies.”

She also stated that while she is “immune from testifying,” she would “like to testify” because she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong.

“I have nothing to hide,” she stated. “I’ve done nothing wrong.”
