Though many have been accusing Donald Trump of racism since his controversial tweet about the Dem “squad” — consisting of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley — the hosts of “The Five” pushed back against the leftist narrative on Monday.
In a monologue given only moments before the freshman four held a press conference about Trump and his attacks on them, Greg Gutfeld said, “The tweets are being called racist because Trump told critics of the U.S. to go back to their country. Now those critics are holding a presser any minute to respond. It all sounds bad if you leave out the rest of it.”
The longtime Fox News host continued, “He actually said go back to your countries, fix the problems there, and then come back and show us how you did it? So how many racists say leave, then please come back and help us? I’d say probably zero.”
It wasn’t all defense from Gutfeld as he said the present could “work harder on the details, like only one of the ‘squad’ is from somewhere else, and also maybe not tweet about the Dems while they’re eating each other alive.”
He added, “I could have worded the tweets better than Trump, but unlike his crazy critics, at least I can read them.”
Dana Perino then jumped in and argued that Trump did not say he would want to see the lawmakers “come back” at his Monday afternoon press conference.
“The point about him saying that they could come back, if that were his really strong point, he would’ve reiterated it today when he answered several questions about it and he never did that. He just said leave,” she said.
Jesse Watters brought some humor to the talk when he said that his mother had already texted him to tell him that what Trump said about the Dem lawmakers was racist.
“Mom’s not going to scare me off. These were not racist. This was about patriotism. When did ‘Love it or leave it?’ become racist? Not only leave it, hey, come back and help us fix our problems,” Watters argued in spite of his mother’s stance on the issue.
He continued, “We are not talking about death, famine, drought. We’re talking about a word, a tweet. We’re not even talking about an action and people are crying their eyes out about this. They have said so many worse things about this president. He is a Nazi rapist who deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life?”

President Trump originally drew heavy criticism after tweeting that Ocasio-Cortez and the other previously mentioned Dem members of Congress should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
Trump has doubled down on his comments since then multiple times and gone on to say that the “squad” he has targeted hates the United States with a “passion.” He also accused Omar of hating “Jews” and “Israel.”
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi promised on Monday that a resolution is “forthcoming” in Congress condemning Trump’s critiques on the Dem lawmakers.
