Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz slammed Democrats for repeatedly denying there’s a crisis at the US-Mexico border and took aim at top Democrat Jim Clyburn for derisively laughing while denying the humanitarian crisis and national-security emergency.
For months, Democrats and the left-wing media accused President Trump of “manufacturing” a crisis.
In recent weeks — when they could no longer deny that the border crisis is real— Democrats and the media finally admitted that there is indeed an emergency at the border.
Matt Gaetz sounds alarm to Dems: Wake up!
Gaetz played the audio tape yesterday at a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee in response to a Democrat saying it was “offensive” that Republicans said Democrats were in denial about the crisis.
Gaetz whipped out his phone to prove that many Democrats did indeed repeatedly deny that the crisis was real.
“The gentle lady from Texas in her prior claim of time said it was ‘offensive’ to assert that Democrats were in denial about the crisis on the border,” Gaetz said. “I would invite my Democratic colleagues to go to my official Twitter account, where I have posted an interview from January 9, 2019.”
He continued: “It was on CNN — not exactly a hostile network for you folks. Let me just play what the question was. It’s Jim Clyburn, the Democratic Whip, answering the question [about whether the border crisis was real].”

In the brief audio excerpt, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn — the third-highest ranked Democrat in the House — chuckled when a CNN host asked him if he agreed with Trump that there was a “humanitarian crisis” at the border.
Clyburn cackles while cheerfully saying, “Absolutely not!”

Gaetz: Dems think illegal aliens suffering at border is hilarious
Gaetz said that Clyburn’s dismissive attitude about the border crisis spotlights the Democratic Party’s hypocrisy and web of lies.
“I just think that’s quite something, that when you’re fed back your own words from your own leadership from earlier this year, you think that’s out of context and inappropriate and not allowed,” Gaetz said. “Again, we didn’t raise the issue. It was the gentle lady from Texas who said, ‘These allegations from Republicans that we were in denial — they’re offensive. We’ve always known of the crisis.’ ”
Gaetz underscored: “The Democratic Whip laughed! ‘Absolutely not! [he said.]’ He thought it was laughable.”

Gaetz: Leftist open-borders advocates were in denial
Matt Gaetz said the border crisis has mushroomed into an alarming emergency because the obstructionist Democrats — in their efforts to resist and undermine President Trump — let the situation fester out of control.
And now they’re upset at Trump for trying to fix a longstanding immigration crisis that should have been addressed decades ago.

“One of the reasons why so many young people — so many vulnerable people — are in tragic conditions is because we didn’t act when the Administration wanted us to provide funding that was absolutely necessary to care for people,” Gaetz explained. “So it is appropriate to question why we are in these conditions.”
Gaetz pointed out: “It wasn’t the Republicans that were in denial. It was all of you [Democrats], from your own leadership. Be offended with the Democratic Whip — not House Republicans.”
