On Wednesday’s “America’s Newsroom,” Fox News host Howard Kurtz spoke out about the obvious disappointment for so many Americans that has resulted from women’s soccer player Megan Rapinoe continually “dissing” President Trump and the national anthem. “She is using the platform … to mar or spoil or tar what could have been this great unifying moment,” he said.

Following the celebratory ticker tape parade for the team in New York City, Kurtz accused Rapinoe of taking a “divisive approach to just about everything.”

“Look, I think it’s great,” said Kurtz about the women’s World Cup win. “It had the potential to be this wonderful unifying moment for the country. The women’s soccer team played so well, captured that World Cup. But she has just been constantly giving interviews dissing Donald Trump, dissing the White House, dissing the national anthem. I think that is a shame. She is happy to accept an invitation to go on the Hill from AOC, but really attacking the President.”

Rapinoe earlier on Wednesday appeared on CNN and reiterated she would not go to the White House. She was asked what she would say to Trump. “You’re excluding me,” she replied. “You’re excluding people that look like me. You’re excluding people of color. You’re excluding Americans that maybe support you.”

Responding to that interview clip, Kurtz commented: “But when she says ‘excluding the people who look like me’ she is obviously an openly gay athlete. This president appointed an openly gay ambassador to Germany. He said it was great.”

“She is very liberal, and she can’t stand this president,” Kurtz said. “She is using the platform, I’m sorry to say this, in some ways to mar or spoil or tar what could have been a great unifying moment.”

“It’s a great victory for the team, but she is getting the bulk of the attention,” Bill Hemmer said. “I wonder what the other players think. We don’t really hear from them. Maybe they would like to go to the White House.”

“I am sure that some of them would love to go to the White House, said Guy Benson. “Look, she is totally within her rights to say everything she is saying. She’s a lefty and that’s fine. She also might be making a business decision. Look at how well this type of behavior worked out for Colin Kaepernick, and she’s like, ‘Hey, it’s my moment to shine.’ Some dollars might flow to this form of resistance that she is engaged in. She is talking about exclusionary rhetoric, and in one of the interviews last night, she said she is interesting in having a conversation with anyone who agrees with her, which sounds awfully exclusionary to me, but what do I know?”

Following the continual insults aimed at America and at least half of the population, there was, of course, a natural amount of fallout that has not been widely reported. According to the AP, viewership was down 43.8 percent from the last World Cup final in 2015.

Clips of Rapinoe ungraciously bragging and basking in her win have been making the rounds, and have done little to impress many patriotic Americans.
