Resistance left want to start boycotting Home Depot after founder’s Trump support, but the joke’s on them

In a recent interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, one of Home Depot’s five co-founders revealed that he plans to support President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign.

And in response to learning that billionaire co-founder Bernard Marcus support’s Trump reelection because he appreciates the president’s economy-boosting efforts, the left promptly threw a fit and vowed to boycott Home Depot, never mind the facts (more on this later).

Why is Marcus an “a-hole,” as the Twitter user above called him? Because he supports the president’s fiscal conservatism, i.e., deregulation, reduced taxes, etc.

“[H]e was a top contributor to Donald Trump during his presidential run. And Marcus told the AJC that he plans to support the president’s re-election bid,” AJC reported late last month.

“While Trump ‘sucks’ at communication, Marcus said, the president deserves praise for boosting U.S. jobs, confronting China on trade and taking action against Iranian and North Korean aggression.”

Because of the president’s historic tax cuts, which went into effect in early 2018, Home Depot’s hourly employees received bonuses of up to $1,000 last year (fact one). And earlier this year the home improvement retailer began what was described as “the biggest technology hiring spree in its history” (fact two).

Given that the president’s policies have clearly been good to both Home Depot and its estimated 400,000 employees nationwide (fact three), it’s not hard to see why one of the company’s key co-founders would like to see him win reelection.

What’s far more difficult to understand is the logic — or lack thereof? — of far-leftists who’ve vowed to boycott Home Depot and shop at its competitor Lowe’s instead.

The problem is that the founders of Lowe’s appear to be just as favorable toward Trump and the Republican Party as Marcus. According to records maintained by the Center for Responsive Politics, during the 2018 election, 81 percent of the company’s political donations went to Republicans (fact four):

Moreover, in his interview with AJC, Marcus had been speaking about his personal donations. These are wholly separate from Home Depot, especially given that he retired from the company’s board of directors in 2002 (fact five).

But there’s more. As noted earlier, Home Depot has four other co-founders. One of them, Arthur Blank, had previously donated to the election campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (fact six). And oh, he’s a Trump hater just like the people vowing to boycott his company (fact seven).

Since Trump’s election to office, Blank has repeatedly criticized him over his position on the NFL’s national anthem protests, over his plans to build a southern U.S. border wall and more.

Last but not least is fact eight, which is that for every venomous anti-Trump zealot, there’s an equally passionate conservatives who proudly supports the president.

And thanks to the left’s boycott, these conservatives are itching to get themselves some home improvement supplies from Home Depot:

“Crowded AF” indeed!
