A new report suggests that Meghan McCain is not happy with her position on ABC’s “The View” and is seriously considering parting with the program.
As the talk show’s lone conservative voice, McCain often makes headlines for the clashes she has with her more liberal co-hosts like Joy Behar.

According to a new report from The Daily Beast, McCain is considering turning down an offer to return for the 23rd season of “The View,” which would begin next September.
Sources in the report are claiming McCain is “feeling like a caged animal” on the program. They also describe the daughter of the late John McCain as “so exhausted and defeated” from her two years on “The View.”
“It’s getting to the point where it’s not worth the emotional toll every week,” an alleged McCain “pal” said. “If she doesn’t stay at ‘The View,’ she will find other work.”
“We don’t want people to attack Meghan. We’re happy to have Meghan there,” Hilary Estey McLoughlin, the senior executive producer of “The View,” told The Daily Beast. “I think she does want to be there. I think she wants to be on the show. She realizes it’s a very good platform for her and we love having her there. I feel like she will come back.”
The executive producer said though that negative stories related to McCain being on the show “don’t seem to go away.” She added that being the lone conservative voice is no doubt “draining” for McCain.
“What happens with Meghan is that because she’s so passionate about what she’s talking about, and she feels very strongly that she’s carrying this mantle for the conservative perspective, and what she wants to talk about is so important to her, I think that’s the part that’s the most draining for her,” she said.
Other conservative voices have come and gone on “The View” like Elisabeth Hasselbeck and “Full House” actress Candace Cameron Bure.
Despite rumors about McCain leaving the political talk show, she is officially described as an “asset” to the program.
Candi Carter, a co-executive producer on “The View,” said of McCain, “What is so amazing about having Meghan on the show is she literally has inside-knowledge sources, and she grew up in the world of politics, and that has been such an asset to our show.”
The trouble with “The View” is that they have a rotating door on token conservatives. While it’s always great to see a right-leaning voice challenge the more liberal hosts in roundtable discussions, there is typically only one voice to represent the right. This person then has the job to fight off attacks from every direction in order to present an alternative viewpoint to the ones screamed to a studio audience every single day on that program.
Conservative commentators on “The View” never seem to be treated particularly well by other hosts or a majority of the studio audience, so it leads to a peer pressure that is no doubt hard to deal with on a near-daily basis.
ABC itself has denied that McCain or any of the other hosts will be leaving “The View.”
“The co-hosts and The View have had an incredible season and we expect them all back for an epic year ahead,” a spokesperson for the network told Deadline in a statement.
