The world is once again mad at Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow — this time for having allegedly scammed them of $5,700. Goop, there it is!
According to a Page Six report that emerged Tuesday, over the weekend the actress hosted a so-called “wellness summit” that allegedly turned out to be nothing but a sales pitch for her natural health company, Goop. Worst of all, she allegedly barely participated in any of the activities.
“Gwyneth acts like she’s a health goddess, but actually she’s a pretentious, greedy extortionist,” one attendee said to the outlet. “She had a ton of security. … She was unapproachable. She did the minimum — a few fireside chats with Twiggy and Penelope Cruz, then she put on her Birkenstocks and snuck out.”
“I was a huge fan of Gwyneth; now I feel like I have lost my faith in God,” the aggrieved attendee added.
Twiggy is reportedly a British actress.

Another attendee reportedly got so incensed that she sent out a WhatsApp message to other attendees describing Paltrow as “a f–king extortionist.”
Page Six reports that the attendees were charged $5,700 just to attend the event. It’s unclear whether that included the $1,300 they were urged to spend to book rooms at a hotel where rooms started for as cheap as $250.
“The [fancy-pants] Goop rooms were suites with a gluten-free breakfast included,” the outlet reported.
And that tiny luxury was apparently worth them spending $800 more than they otherwise would have.
Of course, Paltrow – who reportedly spent some of the summit offering allegedly helpful tips such as “creativity with your hands is like channeling God” (what does that even mean!?) – doesn’t seem even slightly fazed by the searing criticism.
One of her Goop representatives told Page Six that the “true value” of the summit was $8,000, basically suggesting that frustrated attendees should be grateful that the actress didn’t waste even more of their money.
“In addition to walking around the summit, she also hosted an intimate workout class with Tracy … followed by … a panel, where she and Tracy answered attendee questions in an honest, casual setting … We have not received negative feedback,” the rep added.
“[It] was more along the lines of, ‘Thanks for an amazing weekend!'”
An amazing weekend with “a f–king extortionist,” but sure …
Actually, to be honest, there were some people who seemed to enjoy the weekend, including Jess Commons of the entertainment company Refinery29.
In a piece titled “I Spent The Day At Gwyneth Paltrow’s £1,000 A Ticket Wellness Summit,” Commons expressed satisfaction at encountering so many rich, wealthy women living it up la vida loca.

“What I am most impressed with though, are the women in attendance at In Goop Health. Clearly very wealthy, there are some impressive CEO, Lean In types about,” she wrote.
“These are women with money to spend; I watch one woman in awe as she interrogates the vendor of a heated gem mat (£1,028 since you ask) with all the directness of Jeremy Paxman on University Challenge. I speak to another woman, a high-powered corporate lawyer from Washington DC (the thought of doing her job sends me into a cold sweat on the hottest day of the year) who flew over just for the summit weekend.”
“There are mothers of many children, high-powered lawyers, financial bigwigs. Coffee is their lifeblood. I mentally salute them for their hard work, head straight to the Farm Girl stand and order the first of several Americanos.”
And there it is. The event was clearly aimed for wealthy women just like Paltrow who have all the money in the world to waste, not working-class plebeians whose every single dollar counts.
Is there anything wrong with being wealthy and wanting to enjoy the fruits of your labor? Absolutely not. Is there something sketchy about deceiving working-class women into spending their precious dollars on an otherwise useless event? Perhaps.
But by the same token, there was plenty of “free stuff” at the summit, according to Commons.
“There’s an impressive amount of ‘free’ stuff; in the Body Studio I receive a set of Goop leggings and workout top,” she wrote. “On my seat at the opening ceremony, there’s a healing crystal (what ailment does a clear crystal heal pls?).”
“There are flowers everywhere – from the floral branding board to the wallpaper behind the stage and on the slide (really) that leads down from upstairs. Even the air smells clean. I breathe in as much as I can to try and cancel out cigarettes and London pollution. That’s how it works…right?”
Apparently so …
She further noted that the summit featured a plethora of events, including a lesson on how to massage one’s face, an LED facial treatment, a panel discussion with environmental journalist Beth Gardiner, a discussion with Swiss-British columnist Johann Hari, etc.
All in all, it doesn’t appear the event was quite as bad as Paltrow’s critics portrayed. Nor was it nearly as reputation-damaging as her prior faux pas, including but not limited to:
