Saul Alinsky taught the left to “pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it,” and while he instructed them to go after individuals rather than institutions, this cabal was never much for following the rules.
On the same day a group of hard-left Democrats toured migrant detention centers along the border, coming away with tales of Border Patrol agents forcing inhabitants to live in extreme conditions and drink from toilets, we learn Amnesty International is accusing the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department of targeting illegal immigrant activists.
Amnesty International interviewed 23 “human rights defenders” — aka the open border left — who claim they are being targeted by the U.S. government because of their work on behalf of immigrants, the Daily Caller reported.
The accusations include claims of harassment and intimidation, according to the exclusive report.
“Amnesty International has found since 2018 that the United States government has executed an unlawful and politically motivated campaign of intimidation, threats, harassment, and criminal investigations against people who defend the human rights of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers (‘migrant human rights defenders’) on the US–Mexico border,” read a report from the London-based human rights group, according to the online news outlet.
Ten of those interviewed were reportedly placed on a DHS watch list for their alleged involvement in human smuggling, charges Amnesty International called “dubious.”
Erika Guevara-Rosasa, Americas director for Amnesty International, accused the Trump administration of “discriminatory misuse of the criminal justice system.”
“The Trump administration’s targeting of human rights defenders through misuse of the criminal justice system sets it on a slippery slope toward authoritarianism,” read a prepared statement from Guevara-Rosasa in the report. “The US government is disgracing itself by threatening and even prosecuting its own citizens for their vital work to save the lives of people in a desperate situation at the border.”
The Daily Caller pointed out an important distinction amid the serious allegations, that being that Amnesty International did not include any documented evidence to support the claims.
“Instead, the report significantly relies on drawing a connection between activists and their subsequent run-ins with the law,” the article said.
The liberal human rights group highlighted the case of Dr. Scott Warren, who is with No More Deaths, an organization that places water and food in the bleak and barren Arizona desert for illegal immigrants.
Warren was arrested in 2017 and again in 2018 on human smuggling related charges.
More from The State Press
Warren, a volunteer with the humanitarian group No More Deaths, was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol in Ajo, Arizona, on suspicion of concealing, harboring or shielding two undocumented immigrants in January 2018.
Warren faces felony charges on counts of “harboring illegal aliens” and “conspiracy to transport and harbor illegal aliens,” according to court records, and could face up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
Amnesty International claimed the charges are a “retaliatory attack,” coming after No More Deaths releasing a video allegedly showing border agents destroying water jugs left in the desert, according to the Daily Caller.
