Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk announced the launch of a campaign to get one million “Students for Trump” heading into the 2020 election.
The conservative activist spoke to Fox News about the get-out-the-vote campaign which will aim to enlist the support of students for President Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign.
“This is the most aggressive voter identification GOTV program targeting students on college campuses for a Republican president ever,” Kirk said. “The road to the White House goes straight through college campuses and the left is targeting a lot of their messages on policy directly toward students—student loan forgiveness, unrealistic socialist programs—we’re doing everything we can to make sure Trump does get re-elected.”
With a budget of $15 million and 150 staffers, the project is affiliated with Kirk’s conservative nonprofit Turning Point Action and can impact more than 1,400 college campuses.
“We’re going to encourage students to vote in the states where their campuses are,” Kirk said of the “nationwide effort” with a “hyper-focus” on colleges in important swing states for Trump such as Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, Iowa, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
“Democrats believe that this is their path of least resistance—that they’ll be able to waltz onto campuses, put their messages across with little to no cross-examination, and what we’re doing is going to be a very large component,” Kirk told Fox News, adding that the project will bring “much-needed sobriety and reality to political promises being made by the left.”
“The probability that these gallivanting politicians will be able to forgive massive student loan debt and deliver free health care is quite low,” he said. “It would add decreased economic mobility and freedom and opportunity, and adding this type of reality is so overdue and needed.”
“The majority of students do have student loan debt, but there are a fair amount of students that work and have been paying off their student loans religiously—do they get any form of reimbursement?” Kirk said.
“We will target those students in these key states that have worked their way through college—and there are plenty of them,” he said. “The battle of ideas is going to be more consequential on college campuses in the next 18 months than I think ever before.”
Kirk told “Fox & Friends” Tuesday that the campaign will aim to sell Trump’s “amazing record of accomplishment” to students.

“We’re going to be talking about the success of this president to our generation that have been benefiting from them – something that they’re not going to be hearing from their liberal professors,” Kirk explained.
I believe this president has such an amazing record of accomplishment to sell to college students. That’s what our effort is going to be doing going to 2020 and we’re really excited to get it underway starting today,” he added.
“Our goal is to get a million new voters to the polls by 2020 – mostly college students,” Kirk said.
“Understand, this has never really been tried before on this magnitude and this scale. Look, this president has done stuff before that people never thought of. Students are gravitating toward this message,” he added, noting that the left’s “suppression of free speech” and socialist policies are “opening up an opportunity for us to communicate to common sense young voters.”
Kirk noted that though the road ahead may seem daunting, he is inspired by the president.
“There is a lot of work ahead of us. We have a lot of resources to put together. A lot of staff to hire. A lot of energy to put forward.,” Kirk said. “But I will tell you this president is such an inspiration to me and our generation we can’t wait to do everything we can to help get him reelected.”
