Former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke apparently thinks one way to campaign for the 2020 Democratic nomination is to travel to Mexico.
The presidential candidate’s political pandering led him over the southwestern border to Mexico on Sunday so he could speak to those seeking to come to the U.S. – many illegally – and come up with a way to help them.
I walked across the Paso del Norte bridge and into Mexico this morning to meet with kids and families who came to our country seeking asylum but who have been turned back by this administration’s unlawful and inhumane policies.

Rather than speak to Border Patrol agents or residents in U.S. cities along the southern border affected by the influx of illegal immigrants, O’Rourke took his campaign to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico to meet with so-called asylum seekers and what his campaign described as “individuals and families directly impacted by Donald Trump’s cruel and inhumane policies.”

Across the Rio Grande River from O’Rourke’s hometown of El Paso, Texas, the Democratic 2020 hopeful spoke in Spanish to those gathered in a restaurant before heading to a shelter, the Associated Press reported.
Earlier today @BetoORourke met with Central American migrants who are staying at Casa del Migrante, a Catholic Church-run shelter in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

“We hope, by sharing these stories, that the conscience of our country is awoken right now, and the need to change the policies that we have in place” becomes apparent, O’Rourke said in a livestream of the event on his Facebook page.

Migrants from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala told O’Rourke at the Catholic church-run shelter about being denied entry into the U.S., waiting while their asylum claims were being processed in the Mexican border city while fearing being sent back to their home countries.
O’Rourke pointed a finger at “the Trump administration’s unlawful ‘Remain in Mexico’ program” for their plight, echoing remarks he made on “Face the Nation” Sunday.
“This inhumane policy is causing suffering and death,” O’Rourke said. “Going to Ciudad Juárez, Mexico and meeting with these asylum seekers is a great way for the American public to know what is being done in our name right now.”

His campaign noted that a goal of the trip was to “shed light on the desperate circumstances those who are seeking asylum and refuge are fleeing, and the conditions these families and individuals are forced to endure when they’ve been turned away from our borders.”
O’Rourke’s visit came after Julian Castro called out his fellow Texan during Wednesday’s first presidential primary debate in Miami.
“If you did your homework on this issue, you would know that we should be repealing this section [of law],” the former Obama administration Housing and Urban Development secretary and mayor of San Antonio, said, referring to O’Rourke’s unwillingness to decriminalize illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border.

O’Rourke also staged a “Rally for the Children” event outside of the Border Patrol Station in Clint, Texas on Sunday.

What’s happening to these children is being done in our name—but in a democracy, it’s on us to change it. With hundreds gathering at Clint, we showed that we will. We will do right by these kids, these families, and our country. Thanks to those who are keeping the pressure on. pic.twitter.com/Ieh4d0sqvr

The facility, near El Paso, was visited by Castro on Saturday amid reports immigrant children brought to the U.S. illegally have not had access to soap, toothbrushes and other basic amenities.
O’Rourke’s move to take his campaign across the border and focus on people who are not even living in the U.S., let alone being American citizens, was met with plenty of backlash on Twitter.
Democratic candidate Beto O’Rouke is campaigning for US President in MEXICO. Not to US Citizens, to those he welcomes with open arms and wishes to provide free healthcare to on US Taxpayer’s dime. Think about it.. Dems aren’t fighting for the US citizens, but for Mexican citizens https://t.co/N0BzFMwifm

Hard to believe Dems think this is a winning strategy, they are basically guaranteeing a Trump victory.

This guy needs to go. How dare he pander and promise to non-citizens. The right and left are losing any middle ground and not even able to talk anymore. We are playing different games and I fear this will not end well.

Gotta love the strategy.

Beto O’roark will be going into Mexico today to collude with foreign citizens on how to get into our country. Who gave him that job? Why is he campaining for president in Mexico? I believe he’s trying to secure illegals support in Texas. He’s not really interested in Presidency.

Hi Beto, please visit Ohio counties ravaged by opioids, PAa towns ravaged by industries closing and moving production to Mexico and China, MI towns ravaged by auto manufacturers leaving plus Japan and South Korea subsidizing their auto industries. Pres elections are won here.

Nothing like pandering to citizens of another country that attempted to break our laws. If the US is ssssooooooo racist & inhumane, then why in the fuck are so many people trying to come here?

Did he bring a truckload of Absentee ballots with him?
