“The View” cohost Meghan McCain seemed to have second thoughts about praising Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and the congresswoman’s performance at Wednesday night’s Democratic presidential primary debate.
After tweeting that Gabbard was coming across as the most “composed and authentic” of the 10 Democrats on the stage, McCain deleted her tweet without explanation.
The McCain tweet was fortunately reposted by Gabbard’s Twitter account. The repost appeared to come from Gabbard’s sister who sent out other tweets during the debate and signed them all with “V.”

Another tweet from Gabbard’s sister accused MSNBC of showing favorable coverage of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) over the other candidates on the stage.

The McCain tweet praising Gabbard is actually now live on her Twitter account as she reposted it after Gabbard’s account posted a screenshot of her tweet. McCain even responded to the Gabbard tweet by saying, “Tweeted — I stand by what I said.”

McCain pushed back against accusations that she was not standing by her original praise of Gabbard. Mediaite published a story with the headline “Meghan McCain Deletes Tweet Praising Tulsi Gabbard: ‘Most Composed and Authentic'” and McCain replied by saying, “The tweet is up, slow your roll – why is this website always putting out fake headlines about me.”
Time stamps on the tweets do show however that McCain deleted her Gabbard praise and then reposted it after Gabbard’s account spotlighted the praise.
McCain told Mediate about the matter, “The implication of the headline is I didn’t stand by what I said.”
Gabbard, a military veteran who served in Iraq, seems to have come across as more level-headed than her Wednesday competitors to most people. A Drudge Report poll taken after the debate showed Gabbard as the clear winner of the night, despite the congresswoman receiving only a fraction of airtime compared to others like Warren and Beto O’Rourke, who spent the night proving again and again that he has zero chance of ever becoming president.
Nearly 40 percent of voters in the poll declared Gabbard the winner of the debate. In second place was Warren with 12.26 percent of the vote. More than 70000 people have voted in the poll.
Whatever McCain’s reason is for posting and then deleting and then reposting her tweet about Gabbard, she’s on the money about the congresswoman. There wasn’t exactly a high bar set on Wednesday night considering the congresswoman’s competition, but Gabbard was really the only one on the stage who seemed like she actually occupied a space called reality.
The Democratic presidential primary debates will continue on Thursday evening with 10 more candidates taking the stage.
The candidates will be Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), John Hickenlooper, Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Marianne Williamson, and Andrew Yang.
