Former Vice President Joe Biden has his hands full fighting off the radical hard left elements of the Democratic Party, who have no intentions of allowing a 76-year-old white male to become the party’s nominee, but that isn’t stopping President Trump from piling on.
In an interview Monday with Hill TV, Trump accused Biden of lying about not being endorsed by former President Barack Obama.
“Look, there’s something different,” he said of Biden. “He’s a different person than he was 4-5 years ago, and he wasn’t so hot 4-5 years ago.”
“How he doesn’t get President Obama to endorse him — there has to be some reason why he’s not endorsing him,” the president opined. “He was the vice president. They seem to have gotten along. And how President Obama’s not endorsing him is rather a big secret.”
He then discounted Biden’s established explanation that he requested that Obama not endorse him.
“Then he goes and lies and said, ‘I asked the president not to endorse me.’ Give me a break,” Trump said.
“He’s embarrassed by the fact that Obama’s not endorsing him, so he goes out and says, ‘I asked President Obama not to endorse me,'” he continued. “So it could be that President Obama knows something, but there is something going on in that brain of his.”
The Hill pressed Trump on what he was talking about regarding Biden’s brain.
“I think he’s off. He’s different,” the president explained. “We’ve all known him a long time. I have seen him for a long time. Frankly, he looks different, he sounds different and he thinks different. Other than that, I hope he does very well.”
The president pushed that same theme with reporters earlier this month, saying that he would prefer to run against Biden, who he called a “loser.”
“Now, I have to tell you, he’s a different guy. He looks different than he used to,” he said from the White House lawn. “He acts different than he used to. He’s even slower than he used to be. So I don’t know.”
“I’d rather run against, I think — Biden — than anybody,” Trump added. “I think he is the weakest mentally. I like running against people that are weak mentally. I think Joe is the weakest up here. The other ones have much more energy.”
As for Obama not endorsing Biden, that didn’t stop him from reminding Democrats of his favorable association with the former president earlier this month.
Biden took to social media on June 9 to mark National Best Friend Day in the United States, cleverly sharing that he considers Obama his best friend.
“Happy #BestFriendsDay to my friend, @BarackObama,” Biden tweeted, including a photo of a friendship bracelet Obama made for him in 2016 while they were in office — the bracelets were part of a light-hearted get-out-the-vote video.
