There are some things money just can’t buy.
And extra leg room on a long flight is apparently too valuable to give up, as NFL star Cam Newton learned when his offer to pay cash for the coveted seat was flatly rejected.

A Twitter user posted the exchange on the airline this past weekend in a video that showed the Carolina Panthers quarterback speaking to a passenger on the 10-hour flight from Paris.
Newton’s 6-foot, 5-inch frame was apparently having an issue with the cramped quarters on the flight and he made an attempt to switch seats with someone enjoying some ample leg room. But when he allegedly offered the passenger $1,500, he was simply rejected.

The video showed Newton standing over the male passenger in conversation, apparently trying to make a deal. But the unidentified man wasn’t budging and his rejection of Newton’s offer sent the smiling football player back to his original seat.
Though speculation arose as to how the athlete with a reported $20 million salary was not flying first class or business, there were a few explanations that popped up on social media. Newton allegedly missed his paid-for flight which would presumably have offered him the stretching room he desired.

Cam Newton was booked for a first class ticket from Paris, had such a wonderful time at Men’s Fashion Week he missed the flight, was forced to take coach ticket on a later flight when he offered $1,500 for an upgrade, via caller who’s dad was pilot on the flight.

Eli Edwards, who posted the video to Twitter on Saturday, told CNN that he had run into Newton at the airport ahead of the takeoff of the U.S.-bound flight from Paris.
“I said hi to him, shook his hand,” Edwards, a competitor from NBC’s “The Titan Games,” said.
He began to record the quarterback when he noticed him on board the same flight later on. Edwards, who lives in Alaska and was in Paris to propose to his girlfriend during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, told CNN he heard the unidentified passenger ask Newton his height before turning him down.
Newton has not yet commented on the video but plenty of viewers have, reacting on Twitter to the football star’s predicament and the passenger’s rejection of the offer. Many Twitter users were stunned the man did not take the money and were sure they would have been happy to switch seats with Newton – for the right price.
