A group of California police scrambling to the aid of one of their injured fellow officers were taunted and heckled by onlookers.

A disturbing video posted on social media captured the scene as Sacramento police tended to a 26-year-old officer who lay bleeding with gunshot wounds during an armed standoff last week while two women harassed and heckled them, calling them “cowards.”

Comstock Magazine digital editor Matthew Keys posted the video on Twitter which showed a Sacramento Police officer directing the women away from the area, warning of a fear of “dirty bullets” at the scene where a domestic dispute had escalated.

“Y’all not fitting to shape no narrative today,” one woman could be heard saying as an officer proceeded to tape off the area.

“When this thing is reestablished we’ll move. We gonna watch, though,” a woman off camera could be heard saying.

“Get your line! Cowards! The only people we need to be safe from is you!” one woman shouted in the video.

“Hey, stray bullets catch people, ma’am,” the officer responded.

“Whatever officer gettin’ shot need to be,” another woman said as she hurled insults at the officer, calling him “you little bastard,” a “punk” and a  “coward.”

“Take that gun off. I’ll whoop your little butt,” the woman taunted the officers who calmly worked at securing the tape. “All y’all cowards. You’re all cowards! We got guns too!”

Later in the video, the sound of gunfire emitted surprised gasps from the crowd gathered and a woman was heard saying: “They’re over here scrambling.”

The injured officer, Tara O’Sullivan, died of the gunshot wounds after it took 45 minutes to get her to the hospital, the Sacramento Bee reported.

O’Sullivan, who had only been with the department for a year, was shot while reportedly trying to help a woman move her belongings out of a home. A gunman with a rifle shot the young officer and proceeded to hold off police for nearly eight hours from inside a house before surrendering.

“Due to one of our officers being shot, our officers took safe positions, and at that time they believed the officer was shot with a rifle,” Police spokesman Sgt. Vance Chandler said. “The officer went down in the yard of a residence, and due to the suspect being armed with a rifle and actively shooting our officers maintained cover in safe positions until we were able to get an armored vehicle in the area.”

O’Sullivan was reportedly shot at about 6:10 p.m. but wasn’t able to be removed safely until about 6:54 p.m., according to Chandler who said she was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center at 6:59 p.m. where she was considered to be in serious condition, but died a few hours later. O’Sullivan’s death marked the first time a Sacramento police officer was killed in the line of duty in more than 20 years.

Keys, who posted the video of the officers being taunted by bystanders during the tense ordeal, later posted a link to a longer, more than 25-minute video.

Viewers of the video were outraged by the actions of the women and weighed in on Twitter.
