Liberal comedian and political commentator Bill Maher has suggested that the Democrat Party’s current 2020 strategies aren’t cutting it.
During the latest edition of his HBO talk show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he specifically took issue with the Democrats’ bizarre strategies of falsely accusing President Donald Trump of operating concentration camps and pushing for reparations for all black Americans.
“There are certain words that we just associate with something truly at the ultimate end of horrendous,” he first said of socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s widely panned lie that the president is detaining illegal aliens in concentration camps. “Holocaust just means a big fire, but we don’t use the word, ‘Hey, let’s go have a holocaust — I’ll bring the wieners.'”
Far-left radio show host Thom Hartmann immediately pushed back with some whataboutism by rhetorically asking, “At the same time, Trump is accusing The New York of Times of treason, the penalty for which is death, we’re upset that AOC is using the phrase concentration camp?”
The New York Times shared information about the Pentagon’s clandestine operations against Russia. That is in fact treasonous in some regard. Detaining illegal aliens in relatively upscale detention facilities, on the other hand, is no way equivalent to stuffing them in concentration camps.
Here’s a look at one such “concentration camp” in Texas:
Though this clip is from 2014, the detention facility seen in it, the Karnes County Residential Center, is still fully operational. And it’s not alone. There are plenty of other swanky detention facilities throughout the nation.
“But are they concentration camps?” Maher said in response to Hartmann’s false equivalence.
“No, they’re not,” the radio show admitted.
Exactly. Yet a notable contingent of Democrats and a plethora of their media allies (though not all of them) have seized on AOC’s “concentration camps” lie to score points against Trump.
“When you look at what is taking place, people are being put in camps. And when you think about the definition, if we separate it from death camps, I would say these are camps and people are being concentrated in them. And so that’s the general definition,” anti-Semitic Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar said in an interview this week with Public Radio International.
“Every American Jew that I know is disgusted by the cruel treatment of children and families at our southern border,” Democrat Sen. Brian Schatz added in a tweet Wednesday. “If you want to show solidarity with American Jews, help us to stop this, and don’t feign outrage at the language that people use to describe this tragedy.”
Plenty of others followed suit:

Continuing the discussion on “Real Time” Friday, Maher’s various guests, including Hartmann, garnered raucous applause as they pushed back on his valid concerns about the Democrats’ lies.
Fed-up with the cheers and jeers, Maher finally retorted, “So easy to get the applause, but if you want to run a campaign based on reparations and concentration camps, if that’s what — then it’s going to be very hard to win the election. I’m not saying you can’t do it, but it would be very hard to argue that this is helping.”
Fact-check: Very likely true.
During the same week that AOC trotted out the concentration camp lie, the Democrat Party launched a campaign to dole out reparations to black Americans for the injustices of slavery. Never mind that polls have repeatedly shown the American people en masse oppose reparations:

The latest poll conducted in April by Rasmussen Reports found that an overwhelming 66 percent majority of Americans oppose reparations, while 13 percent remain undecided.
And regarding Trump’s so-called “concentration camps,” a CBS poll conducted last summer found that an overwhelming majority of Americans wanted illegal aliens either deported or detained.

Such numbers do not seem to concern Democrat lawmakers, who it would appear hope to drum up support going into 2020 by, one, drawing a false equivalence between illegal alien detention centers (which Americans support) and concentration camps, and two, arguing for reparations.
It’s a bold strategy for sure, but according to polls, everyday Democrats don’t even want that! A new Fox News poll specifically found that three-quarters of Democrat voters aren’t seeking a candidate with a “bold, new agenda,” but rather one “who will provide steady, reliable leadership.”
Though AOC isn’t running for the presidency, her “bold” ideas have infected the Democrat Party from bottom to top, and well, like Maher noted Friday, it’s “very hard to argue that this is helping.”
During Friday’s episode of “Real Time,” the host also praised the gradual legalization of marijuana, accused the president of being a racist and dismissed 2020 contender former Vice President Joe Biden’s “segregationist” scandal.
