Trump reportedly approved, then aborted, pre-dawn military strikes on Iran after drone attack

President Donald Trump approved — then aborted — U.S. military strikes on multiple targets on Iran as retaliation for the rogue state’s downing of a $130 million unmanned U.S. drone on June 20.

Military and diplomatic officials were ready to launch the strikes yesterday night when the operation was abruptly called off.

Trump aborted strikes because he didn’t want to kill 150 Muslims

On Twitter, President Trump explained that he called off the air strikes upon learning that it would kill 150 people, mostly civilians.

Trump says he felt the death of 150 people was a disproportionate response to the downing of an unmanned drone.

Iran mocked US with drone attack video

According to multiple press reports, President Trump had ordered pre-dawn strikes on Iran.

Iranian officials taunted the United States by releasing a video that claims to show one of its anti-aircraft missile gleefully downing the U.S. drone over international airspace — in an unprovoked attack.

Military and Trump officials were reportedly split on whether to respond with military might, according to the NY Times:

“Mr. Trump’s national security advisers split about whether to respond militarily. Senior administration officials said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo; John R. Bolton, the national security adviser; and Gina Haspel, the C.I.A. director, had favored a military response. But top Pentagon officials cautioned that such an action could result in a spiraling escalation with risks for American forces in the region.”

Trump supporters do not want another pointless Mideast war

President Trump reacted in a measured fashion to the news — perhaps due to the conflicting reports and because he is not a saber-rattling leftist who wants to launch yet another pointless, expensive war in the Middle East.

When asked by reporters, President Trump said while the drone attack was a grave mistake on Iran’s part, he conceded that it might have been done in error, and was waiting for more information before deciding how to respond.

Hostile rhetoric from Iran is getting worse

The drone attack appears to be an escalation of increasingly hostile rhetoric from Iran. As BizPac Review reported in May, a top Iranian military official mocked the United States and the Trump administration by making a tasteless jab about 9/11.

General Hossein Salami — the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard — called the United States decrepit and weak.

“The [US political] system has an apparently huge body, but suffers from osteoporosis,” said Revolutionary Guard head Gen. Hossein Salami. “In fact, the US is like the World Trade Building, that collapses with a sudden hit.”  (Oh really?)

NSA John Bolton to Iran: Calm the hell down

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif has publicly stated that Iran is “not seeking war” with the United States.

But to make sure that Iran understands that its ego is writing checks that its body can’t cash, President Trump recently sent bombers and warships to the Middle East to let Iran know that the US is ready to rumble.

National Security Adviser John Bolton — a saber-rattling hawk who has been dying to go to war with Iran for years — warned the Islamic republic to calm the hell down. Or face the consequences.

“The United States is not seeking war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, whether by proxy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or regular Iranian forces,” Bolton said in May.

Iran built up military with cash Obama gave them

Despite all this trash-talking, President Trump and his supporters do not want to get the US involved in yet another bloody, expensive war in the Middle East. The US has been at war in Afghanistan since 2001, and all we have to show for it is wasted tax dollars and dead American soldiers.

If Iranian military leaders sound unusually emboldened, it’s probably because Iran has increased its defense budget 145% under President Hassan Rouhani and is using the billions of dollars that were unfrozen under Barack Obama’s disastrous Iran Nuclear Deal to build up its weapons stockpile.

So basically, Obama gave Iran a planeload of cash to build a massive army to annihilate us. Thanks Obama!

Ex-Obama official: Obama’s wimpiness weakened the US

Michael Rubin — a former Pentagon adviser — isn’t surprised that Iran played the United States for fools under Obama. Rubin said this is exactly what Iran did between 1998 and 2005 when it profited from a lucrative trade deal with the European Union.

These kinds of horrible decisions are precisely why former Obama officials say his wimpiness against foreign adversaries left the world a more dangerous place.

“Obama had the capability, but not the will [to retaliate against our enemies],” said Barry Pavel, a former senior director on the National Security Council. “Obama left a more dangerous world.”
