Tucker says ‘no chance’ Trump’s reelected if ‘vast censorship’ is allowed, should ‘terrify’ free-speech supporters

Fox News host Tucker Carlson took on the issue of tech giants censoring and banning conservative voices, warning that President Trump has “no chance” of being reelected without his supporters being able to speak “freely” online.

Carlson addressed the threat to free speech during his monologue on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday, noting how the left is coming “closer to taking total control of the internet” even while they accuse Trump of being a threat to democracy and free expression.

He noted the creation of the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, a coalition of major companies including Verizon, NBC, Facebook and Google, with the goal of pressuring tech platforms to “develop and deliver against a concrete set of actions protocols and processes for protecting people in brands.”

“In other words, what they’re really saying, is censorship, and censorship on a vast scale, ” Carlson said.

“If they have their way, this will be the end of free speech online and the death, by the way, of mainstream conservatism,” he added. “Any voice that’s right of center will be tarred as hate speech, Russian trolls or simply bad for business. That’s their game plan.”

“It’s simply a question of whether anybody in power in Washington will do anything to prevent it from happening before it does,” Carlson continued. “You’d think the Trump campaign might be interested in this because there’s no chance the president will be reelected if his supporters can’t speak freely online.”

Carlson asked his guest, author Blake Harris, why the “alignment of the people who control all speech online” doesn’t “terrify anyone who believes in free speech.”

“I’m a lifelong liberal,” Harris replied. “But this is not about left and right, this is about right and wrong. And it is alarming.”

Carlson wondered why the “concentration” of power the likes of which he has not seen in his lifetime is not something that seems to be alarming many. Harris admitted it is a question he has asked himself “every morning” and has determined that it is because the left-leaning heads of the major tech companies believe they are “fighting the good fight,” calling out Facebook as an “activist company more than anything else.”

“The level of discrimination against conservatives, against anyone slightly to the right of the left, is astonishing,” he added, noting how there is at least an effort made to acknowledge “implicit bias” when it comes to other marginalized groups, but not so with conservatives.

“The answer you usually get is a wink and a nod, or it’s just well, some views don;t deserve to have a platform,” Harris said. ” I don’t agree with many of these views but they absolutely deserve a platform.”

Carlson agreed, noting how Harris is probably not going to be voting for Trump while doubling down on his warning.

“You know as well as I, he will not be reelected if his supporters can’t speak freely, period,” he contended. “And I don’t know if they understand that. I hope they are starting to figure it out.”
