According to foreign policy non-expert Rep. Ilhan Omar, President Donald Trump is responsible for Iran’s ostensibly sudden, newfound capability to enrich uranium up to 20 percent.
“None of this would be happening if Trump didn’t back out of the Iran nuclear deal,” she tweeted Monday after word broke that the rogue nation has begun to accelerate its production of enriched uranium and will hit 20 percent within just 10 days.
That’s an impressive timetable given that the Iran nuclear deal was supposed to have slowed Iran’s nuclear ambitions by years. It’s at 20 percent that uranium can be used to create nuclear weapons.
“America’s response should be to return to the table and reinstate the Iran nuclear deal. Increasing tensions and threats of war serve nobody’s interests,” Omar’s tweet continued.

While it’s true that the president pulled the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal last year, the deal has remained active since then courtesy its other participants, including China, France, Germany, Russia, the U.K. and the European Union.
The president has long been critical of the Iran deal, in part because it does too little to thwart Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and also because he hasn’t been as keen as the Obama administration was to accept Iran’s claims that it’s been meeting its obligations under the deal.
“As part of the deal, Iran agreed to reduce its number of centrifuges — tube-shaped machines that help enrich uranium — by two-thirds. It also agreed to reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium by 98% and limit uranium enrichment to 3.67%,” Business Insider notes.
“In other words, Tehran agreed to restrictions that would allow it to have enough enriched uranium to maintain the country’s energy needs, without having the ability to build a nuclear bomb.”
The fact that Iran is able to resume its operations and ramp uranium enrichment back to pre-deal levels so quickly suggests that the original 2015 deal itself was an abject failure.
Wow. Amazing how Iran is suddenly doing all these things all of a sudden.

What?
I thought Obama and Ben Rhodes along with their lying spokesman Admiral John Kirby said the stock piles had been removed and were not viable Uranium for a NucWpn but only for peaceful energy production. They Lied to us? #MAGA hold #Iran in check.

Untrue & as usual Rhodes is wrong.
Rhodes, Obama, and lying spokesman Admiral Kirby told us Iran uranium stockpiles moved to safety and can not be used for NucWpn, yet they can be, & now Iran is stating they are doing just that. #IranDeal was all a lie.

Iran had been building their stockpiles all along. There was never an intention on their part to limit their nuclear capabilities. To believe that Obama’s snivelling capitulation to them and bribery is stupid.

Contrary to what Omar wrote, what’s currently happening is the result of months-long aggression by Iran. This aggression reached a climax last week after Iranian military forces attacked two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and tried to bomb them out of existence.
Though Iran tried to deny involvement in the attacks, surveillance footage obtained and released by U.S. Centcom shows units with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps approaching one of the tankers to remove their mines after they’d failed to detonate.
Watch:
In response to both these attacks and Iran’s enrichment announcement, late Monday evening acting Secretary Patrick M. Shanahan announced that an additional 1,000 American troops are to be deployed “to address air, naval, and ground-based threats in the Middle East.”
This follows another deployment last month of 1,500 troops, in addition to an aircraft carrier and bombers. That deployment was spurred by reports that Iran’s allies were threatening U.S. forces in Iraq.

2 of 4: The recent Iranian attacks validate the reliable, credible intelligence we have received on hostile behavior by Iranian forces & their proxy groups that threaten United States personnel & interests across the region.

3 of 4: The United States does not seek conflict with Iran. The action today is being taken to ensure the safety & welfare of our military personnel working throughout the region & to protect our national interests.

4 of 4: We will continue to monitor the situation diligently & make adjustments to force levels as necessary given intelligence reporting & credible threats.

While it’s unclear what’ll happen next, Politico reported Tuesday morning that the “Trump administration and its domestic political allies are laying the groundwork for a possible confrontation with Iran without the explicit consent of Congress.”
Could this mean a possible military conflict? That remains to be seen, though some Republican congressmen do appear to believe that is the best course of action.
“Unprovoked attacks on commercial shipping warrant a retaliatory military strike,” Sen. Tom Cotton said in an interview Sunday with CBS News host Margaret Brennan.
