Here’s how Trump reportedly plans to own the Democratic primary debates

If the upcoming Democratic primary debates sound like they’re going to be a big snoozefest for you, then this latest rumor will likely get you tuning in.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that sources close to the president say he will be live-tweeting the first two Democratic primary debates, both of which are scheduled to take place next week.

The report indicates that some advisors in the administration have warned the president to stay away from Twitter during those nights, but Trump’s social media use has always been a topic of debate even amongst his supporters. As much grief as he gets about it, supporters seem to appreciate Trump’s candid style on the social media platform and the direct line of communication to the president it offers.

The first Democratic primary debate will include a whopping 20 candidates. NBC News only turned away four candidates. The debates will air on June 26 and 27 and will kickoff the 2020 race — especially if Trump decides to join in on the action that early.

The Democratic primary debates will include candidates Trump has already commented on in the past like Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

Live-tweeting the debates would actually make sense for the president since he is officially launching his reelection campaign on Tuesday evening at a rally in Orlando, Florida. The event is set to be attended by as many as 100,000 people. Many lined up for the event a full day before it was set to begin.

“The Fake News doesn’t report it, but Republican enthusiasm is at an all time high. Look what is going on in Orlando, Florida, right now! People have never seen anything like it (unless you play a guitar). Going to be wild – See you later!” the president tweeted ahead of his rally.

The argument against the president using Twitter during the Democratic debates is that he could help Dems develop their campaign strategies as they will get an insight into which policies and attacks get the biggest rise out of him. Then again, Trump, being the master communicator that he is, could just as easily be planning to live-tweet the debates in order to simply throw the various Dem candidates off and get them distracted by attacks and policies that actually don’t matter all that much. This is something he has done in the past and it’s clearly worked.

The biggest question every single Democrat candidate is facing right now is how they expect to beat Donald Trump, a man who beat Hillary Clinton in 2016 despite having zero political experience and nearly every poll indicating he was going to be destroyed on voting day.

By inserting himself into the debating between Dems early, Trump is using his greatest weapon of all — himself. He consistently threw Clinton off in 2016 with his direct attacks and his blunt style. That same force that helped him win in 2016 could easily throw off the current crop of Dem candidates if Trump applies it properly.
