What President Donald Trump said last week about collecting opposition research from foreign agents is neither newsworthy nor indicative of anything illegal, Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro argued Saturday. And as evidence, she presented herself, circa July 2017.
“As someone who’s run for office five times, if the devil called me and said he wanted to set up a meeting to give me opposition research on my opponent, I’d be on the first trolley to hell to get it,” Pirro had said on the July 15, 2017 edition of her FNC program, “Justice with Judge Jeanine.”
“And any politician who tells you otherwise is a bald-faced liar!” she’d added.
Listen:
The host played this clip Saturday evening after a lengthy monologue excoriating Democrats for their “orchestrated outrage” against the president over his remarks about oppo research.
“This week’s orchestrated outrage by the Democrats against Donald Trump is one of hundreds we’ve seen in the last 2-1/3 years, and it amounts to nothing,” her monologue began.
“It’s never about reality but simply the fact that they hate him. They accuse him of committing crimes over and over where there are none. Donald Trump is transparent, unlike other politicians. That’s why he was elected, that’s why people love him.”
And that was her key thesis: That Trump’s remark wasn’t a sign of wickedness but rather one of transparency and honesty — something that, she argued, the Democrats lack in droves.
“The left want you to believe that they would never do what Donald Trump suggested he might. … [T]he reaction from the left was swift, certain and not at all surprising,” she said.
She then played clips of various congressional Democrats, including 2020 contender Rep. Eric Swalwell, suggesting that accepting oppo research from a foreign agent is illegal. It’s not.
“If it’s so bad and unquestionably illegal, why did [Senate Intelligence Committee chair] Sen. Mark Warner try to introduce a bill to require campaigns to report foreign contacts to authorities? And why now? Isn’t it curious that now they want to make it illegal?” Pirro asked rhetorically.
After yesterday’s GOP objection to the FIRE Act, we can add:

It’s quite curious, she maintained, given that Democrats have been accepting opposition research from foreign agents for years.
“Where have you been for the last six years?” she said. “Both [House Intelligence Committee chair Adam] Schiff and Warner have readily accepted information from foreign governments. In fact, Schiff couldn’t wait to talk to the Russians, who were actually comedians whom he thought he was getting information from on Trump.
Fact-check: True.
When the comedians told Schiff via a phone call that they possessed compromising information on the president, he replied, “Please, go ahead!”
And when Warner texted a lobbyist for a Russian oligarch in an attempt to get in touch with former British spy Christopher Steele, he asked if they could meet in person because he’d “rather not have [a] paper trail.”
Actual Democrat responses to being offered foreign opposition research:
Adam Schiff: “Please, go ahead.”
Mark Warner: “Can u talk tomorrow…Wud rather not have paper trail”

Even the Democrat National Committee is guilty of accepting opposition research.
“The DNC collaborated with the helpful Ukrainian government on opposition research to undermine then-candidate Trump and bolster good-old Hillary,” Pirro said.
Fact-check: Also true.
And then there’s failed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton.
“She was in a campaign when she laundered money through a law-firm to Fusion GPS to hire a foreign spy to work with the Kremlin to create a false, fake, lying document that was illegally and knowingly presented to our most revered law enforcement agencies, to a highly respected court, to then illegally spy on an American citizen to get information on an opposing presidential candidate,” Pirro noted.
None of these facts were noted by ABC chief anchor George Stephanopoulos during the interview with Trump that sparked the latest round of left-wing outrage.
“Now I guess Stephanopoulos missed that one. And I’m sure his contribution of $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation had nothing to do with his missing it,” the judge said sarcastically.
Nor did the ABC anchor point out that “Hillary and her hubby got well over $1 million to their alleged 501(c) charity from a Kremlin-connected company for the sale of 20 percent of our, America’s uranium” and that “Bill pocketed close to half a million dollars for a speech that he gave to a Kremlin-connected company.”
All that appeared to matter to Stephanopoulos were the hypotheticals, i.e., would Trump accept opposition research from a foreign agent? Never mind all the money, research and more that Democrats have actually accepted, sometimes even from America’s sworn enemies.
Listen to Pirro’s full monologue below:
Yet despite the Democrats’ own history of accepting this, that and the other from foreign agents and government, they remain completely outraged over Trump’s honest remarks.
Look:
The #MuellerReport made it clear: A foreign government attacked our 2016 elections to support Trump, Trump welcomed that help, and Trump obstructed the investigation. Now, he said he’d do it all over again. It’s time to impeach Donald Trump. https://t.co/yk25iGYpmC

President Trump is once again welcoming foreign interference in our elections. This isn’t about politics. It is a threat to our national security. An American President should not seek their aid and abet those who seek to undermine democracy.
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) June 13, 2019
Disgraceful yet sadly par for the course for this president.
When the president talks like this, it’s no wonder @SenateMajLdr McConnell is blocking bipartisan efforts to secure our elections from foreign interference. https://t.co/AOHAlS5pOs

Trump’s willingness to accept foreign political assistance invites such interference and makes him a nat’l security threat. That’s why I sent a letter to FBI Director Wray demanding answers on how he plans to keep the American people & our elections safe: https://t.co/qitYPy9jUI

It’s no surprise that Trump would accept any help he could get to cling to power–even if it was from a foreign government. He’s brazenly corrupt and continues demonstrating a complete lack of morals and ethics. It’s time to open an impeachment inquiry. https://t.co/q8TGF7VxIZ
