O.J. Simpson’s Twitter debut included a viral video and immediate backlash for its poor timing.
With the username @TheRealOJ32, the former NFL player created his account Friday with a location listed as Las Vegas, Nevada and a video in which he declared he’s “got a little getting even to do.”

“If you don’t see it here, I didn’t say it,” the bio on the 71-year-old’s account page stated with a video posted and pinned to the top of his profile.
“Hey Twitter world, this is yours truly and I’m coming soon to Twitter,” Simpson said “You get to read all my thoughts and opinions on just about everything.”
And while the video has garnered nearly four million views since it was posted Friday morning, the timing of Simpson’s social media debut rubbed many the wrong way, coming hours after the 25th anniversary of his ex-wife’s murder.
Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman were stabbed to death in 1994 outside her Los Angeles home, sparking a history-making murder investigation with Simpson as the prime suspect. He grabbed national attention in a white Ford Bronco as he drove avoiding police before surrendering on the two murder charges for which he was later acquitted.
Although Simpson avoided jail time for the murders, being found not guilty in October 1995, he was sentenced to 33 years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping charges in 2007. He was released after nearly a decade in prison on October 1. 2017.

“It should be a lot of fun. I’ve got a little getting even to do,” Simpson said in the video he posted Friday. The account page features a photo of the NFL Hall of Famer in a suit and the banner photo is an old picture of Simpson’s Buffalo Bills No. 32 jersey.
Simpson’s attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, confirmed to CNN that the account belonged the Simpson.
“Mr. Simpson is the most positive person I’ve ever met,” LaVergne told CNN.
“He’s also very well informed on current events. He will not be negative. Nor will he comment on the LA thing,” he added, referring to the 1994 murders. “It will be one of the best accounts on Twitter to follow.”
The video has racked up over 3.7 million views as of Saturday and Simpson’s account already has over 100, 000 followers. But many Twitter users blasted the former football star for joining the platform.
“Nice to see you taking a stab at this Twitter thing instead of your wife for once,” one user wrote.
“This account’s gonna be killer,” another tweeted.
