Trump introduces healthcare move that greatly helps small businesses: ‘This announcement is a monumental victory’

“This announcement is a monumental victory for small businesses,” President Donald Trump told gathered press on Friday in the White House Rose Garden.

The “announcement” is a new healthcare move by the president meant to expand choice for small businesses. The move is part of a new set of healthcare “rules” the administration announced this week. The new rules are meant to “expand options and drive down the cost of health care.”

The rule Trump announced on Friday allows employers to use tax-exempted funds, known as health reimbursement arrangements, to let employees have the option of buying coverage through the private market. This greatly increases choice for business owners and employees everywhere.

“We are dramatically increasing the ability of Americans to access more affordable health insurance through options and through their employer. We are doing so by expanding health reimbursement arrangements, or HRAs, as they are commonly known,” Trump said.

He later added, “This will increase the size of individual market by at least 50 percent, improving choice, promoting competition and lowering costs for the American people. HRAs provide another important option to help even more employers offer great health insurance and the benefits to the American workers will be incredible. They will be especially useful for small employers, an estimated 90 percent of the businesses that will take advantage of HRAs have fewer than 20 employees.”

“While he claims to want affordable coverage, his Justice Department is busy arguing that courts should destroy protections for people with pre-existing conditions and strike down every other protection and guarantee of affordable health care for America’s families,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA.) responded to the president’s announcement in a public statement.

Trump said that bringing down drug prices is next on his to-do list and its a rare fight where he expects bipartisan support.

“I’ve spoken to Democrats and they are in support of it,” Trump said, “that has to be a joint [effort].”

Trump also addressed the socialist healthcare systems that have been proposed by people like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), one of many leftists looking to challenge Trump for the presidency in 2020.

“That’s going to hurt a lot of people,” the president said of a government-run healthcare system.

He added, “We have to reject the socialist model.”

Trump’s latest move on healthcare not only rejects the socialist model, but it is another effort by the administration to roll back restrictions set by the Affordable Care Act, which passed under Barack Obama’s administration.

District Media President Beverly Hallberg praised this new move from the Trump administration in an interview on Fox Business.

“In some areas of the country, there’s only one option in individual markets. Some cities no options at all and so as somebody who buys my own health insurance I can tell you that since the ACA has passed, it has quadrupled in price, 400% since the affordable care act has passed,” she said on “Making Money.”

This is yet another victory for the Trump administration and America, a practical step forward that Democrats will no doubt do their best to ignore.
