If only we could be so lucky…
Axios is reporting on a “buzz” among top Democrats who believe Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., may primary one of the two Democratic senators in her state.
The only drawback in the announcement is that such a donnybrook would have to wait.
AOC's possible next step: primarying Schumer in 2022 or Gillibrand in 2024 for a Senate seat from New York, sources tell Axios on HBO. https://t.co/Q2UyrtYyMY

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is up for reelection in 2022, and junior Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is up in 2024.
And much can happen between now and then, as shooting stars tend to flame out as quickly as they ascended.
Ocasio-Cortez’s communications director, Corbin Trent, was quoted by Axios with a somewhat coy response, refusing to rule out the scenario while saying the lawmaker is more focused on unifying the party around progressive policies — see socialism.
Corbin said of challenging one of the senators: “Having worked on her campaign, I don’t think we’re going to be moving to a different role any time soon.”
It’s not clear if Ocasio-Cortez understands there’s no pay raise in salary here, as she clamors for more money to do her job.
Axios cited a Harris poll that shows socialism is growing in popularity among women ages 18 to 54 and younger Americans.
A trend that may help Ocasio-Cortez improve her statewide numbers in time, given a March poll by Siena College showed she may struggle in a statewide election — even though she “thrives nationally,” as Axios noted.
With her popularity, it’s not hard to imagine Ocasio-Cortez getting a little too big for her britches — hell, the 29-year-old former bartender thinks she holds sway over the Democratic presidential primary.
Or, at least, her handlers understand the public relations benefits of associating with the right individuals.

And taking on powerful Democrats is old school for Ocasio-Cortez, the self-described democratic socialist who was called “the future” of the party by Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez.
The Bronx Bolshevik unseated long-term incumbent Joe Crowley, who was the fourth-ranked Democrat in the House at the time, in New York’s 14th district in 2018.
There are some who feel Ocasio-Cortez may have to repeat what seemed at the time like an improbable feat:
She better hope she can beat Crowley in her primary again in 2020.

Before wading into the deep waters, Ocasio-Cortez may want to consort with another eccentric left-wing Democrat who was once riding a wave of popularity.
That being former Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., who gave up on running for re-election to his House seat to run for the Senate, failing spectacularly in the primary 59%–18% to then-Rep. Patrick Murphy, who was defeated by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio in the general.
Here’s a sampling of other responses to a possible AOC senate run from Twitter:
And the media is only too happy to perpetuate and amplify it.

Ugh. Not big fan of Gillibrand but I’m a hell no to Ocasio. She’s a Bernie-ite Progressive who only brought out 20% of her own district. Media needs to stop making more of her than she is.

Please God let this happen.

I wouldn’t bet the house on it.

I just changed my position on cross-party primary voting.
