The FDNY is currently responding to a helicopter crashing onto the roof of a high-rise building in midtown Manhattan.
The crash was reported on Monday afternoon. The building is the AXA Equitable Center on Seventh Avenue and West 49th Street. It is a 54-story building.
An emergency notification was issued to New York City citizens about the crash.

“PRELIMINARY UPDATE: There was a helicopter hard landing on the roof of 787 7th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Fire has been extinguished. Please continue to avoid the area,” they tweeted.

Police have said their preliminary findings are that the helicopter tried to make a “hard landing” on the roof of 787 Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The pilot of the helicopter died in the crash. They are the only casualty known so far. The pilot was reportedly the only person aboard the helicopter when it crashed.
Employees in the building were told to evacuate the building and they were given the rest of the day off.
“It was clearly not something normal,” witness Zach Escalante told Fox News’ Shepard Smith about the crash. “Clearly something different.”
He added, “No one trampled themselves, which was encouraging, and as a result people got out very quickly.”
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a press conference that the helicopter experienced an “emergency crash” landing. The governor said the crash is likely not more than that, but the investigation is still in its infancy stages.
Witness videos of the incident show no immediate signs of serious damage to the skyscraper, but smoke could be scene billowing off of the roof at one point from the fire.
787 7th ave, #midtown NYC. We’re 1 block south. 20 mins ago there was a loud sound like a too-low #helicopter & I looked up and saw sheet of flame on roof and then smoke. News reports saying helicopter/small plane crash onto roof which would be consistent with what I heard/saw. pic.twitter.com/swY3ksLskH

Law enforcement officials have confirmed to the New York Post that the perished pilot’s name is Tim McCormack. The chopper that crashed was owned by American Continental Properties Inc.
The pilot was apparently conducting what police are referring to as “executive travel” and its final destination was to be Linden, New Jersey.
American Continental Properties Inc. said they will be releasing a statement through their legal representatives soon.
New York City Governor Bill De Blasio, who is currently trying to earn the Democrat Party nomination to run for president in 2020, has given a press conference on the crash, which can be seen below:
