Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) was not happy with the political theater that was Monday’s testimonies in front of the House Judiciary Committee on the Mueller report.
Among the witnesses called to testify was John Dean, a key figure in the Watergate scandal. Dean has no direct connection to the Mueller investigation, something Collins was quick to point out in his opening remarks.
Collins said the testimonies were a waste of time if they did not involve Robert Mueller himself and Dean is a perfect example of the House stooping to a new low by asking “commentators for opinions on the report.
Collins went after former lawyer Barbara McQuade, another “witness” called to testify, about a tweet she sent out that shows some pretty clear bias in her opinion towards the Mueller report and the president.
“Hey Mueller, look over here,” McQuade’s tweet read, “[Rachel Maddow] has found the collusion. Follow the sanctions. If this whole cable news thing doesn’t work out for you, Rachel, you have a real future in the FBI.”
The bizarre tweet was from December 1, 2018. You can check it out below:

Collins then asked McQuade, “Do you and Rachel Maddow have evidence of collusion that the special counsel didn’t have?”
After stammering for a moment, McQuade replied, “Well, you know, collusion is an interesting term.” She then lamely brought up the fact that Mueller did not actually use the term “collusion” in his report.
“Ultimately after reading his report what he says is I wasn’t able to establish the crime of conspiracy. But he did document numerous contacts between Russia and the Trump campaign,” she said.
“In fact, right at the very beginning of the report, at page one —” McQuade continued.
Collins interrupted the former lawyer to say that though Mueller does not use the term “collusion” in his report, it is a term that plenty of Democrats throw around very loosely each and every day.
“You don’t have any more information or evidence than what we have here?” Collins asked again.
“Is that a question? May I answer?” McQuade responded. She then referred to “page one” of the Mueller report a second time.
Collins also brought up the fact that the House Judiciary Committee is not an investigative unit and there is no way they can somehow find some magic piece of proof of collusion or obstruction that “19 lawyers, 40 FBI agents, 2800 civilians” could not find during the actual Mueller investigation.
“We can barely get through most of our work week without stopping up,” Collins said of members of Congress.
Collins hit the committee with a hard truth during his time behind the microphone: there is nothing new being presented in these meetings. People like John Dean and Barbara McQuade are being paraded before cameras as a political act. Democrats have no facts to back up their arguments against Trump, so they are giving precious time to commentators who have already made it clear that they stand in opposition to President Donald Trump. It’s a sad example of political theater gone too far.
