For one quick to act as the moral authority in America, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., certainly has her share of problems.
A Somali refugee and one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress in 2018, Omar wasted no time in seizing the moral high ground as she simultaneously exposed anti-Semitic tendencies. Yet, on the day she attacked US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, calling the agency “un-American” for enforcing our immigration laws, her glass house was revealed for all to see.
Omar has been ordered to personally reimburse her campaign account $3,469 and to pay a civil penalty of $500 for violating state campaign finance rules during her time as a member of the Minnesota state House, the Star Tribune reported.
But that may be just the beginning of the problems for the freshman Democrat who has become a lightning rod for controversy.
Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin shared the findings of an investigation of Omar’s “shady spending practices” from the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.

And here are the orders of the Minnesota Campaign Finance & Public Disclosure Board in re. @IlhanMN requiring that she pay up, plus describe fully and disclose the amounts she paid for “immigration services” related to her divorce with 10 days. Tick tock. /3 pic.twitter.com/SWAJb7q4mM

Investigative reporter James Rosen pointed out that the bipartisan board vote against Omar was “unanimous,” as he detailed the other spending violations that centered on traveling.
The MN Campaign Finance Board found @IlhanMN misused campaign funds to speak at a Boston rally for @DeeqoJibril; to accept $800 speaking fee in FL; to speak at Girl Up conference in DC; to attend a @peoplefor event in NY; ditto an @NIJC event in IL; and to pay a law firm.

But things get much worse for Omar, the expenditures included $1,500 to a law firm her campaign hired to respond to allegations that she married her brother as part of an “immigration scheme.”
As Malkin noted, Omar filed a joint federal tax return with now-husband Ahmed Hirsi while legally married to Ahmed Elmi, allegedly her brother — Omar denies the claims, but has been slow to prove her assertion.
“Things that make you go hmmm: Read this closely and keep in mind that @ilhanmn was legally married to Ahmed Elmi from 2009-2017 while also filing joint tax returns with Ahmed Hirsi in 2014 and 2015. Time to get federal IRS officials involved,” Malkin tweeted.

More from Fox News on Omar’s marriage woes:
Prior to her marriage with Elmi, Omar had reportedly wed Hirsi in the Muslim “faith tradition,” but the couple separated shortly afterwards. Omar did not officially marry Hirsi until 2018, after reconciling with him and splitting with Elmi.
Tax experts say the IRS only permits joint filings if a couple is in a state that legally recognizes the couple as married.
Writer David Steinberg offered more details in a series of tweets, stating: “A sitting congresswoman may have filed EIGHT YEARS of fraudulent, felonious, tax returns.”
As I have written, @IlhanMN likely committed a remarkable number of additional felonies due to her fraudulent 2009-2017 marriage.
Today’s report appears to confirm the worst of them: @IlhanMN may have filed EIGHT YEARS of fraudulent federal and state tax returns. (2/x)

There is no “unmarried filing jointly” status. @IlhanMN and Hirsi did not have a recognized common law marriage from another state. (Which would have been worse, anyway — it would have been bigamy.) (4/x) pic.twitter.com/6ePSqEIBNH

In the end, accountability may be decided on how, or if, the media decides to cover the controversy over her tax returns and whether Omar violated the law.
And based on additional tweets from Steinberg, the media appears to be as reluctant to delve into the matter as Omar is to discuss allegations that she married her brother.
Update:
Remarkable incompetence from MN CBS affiliate @WCCO: Her "now-husband" — meaning "not at the time."
A once-in-a-career local story with **global** implications — and they **don't even mention** their own coverage confirms @ilhanMN is a felon.https://t.co/f3pp447VM2 pic.twitter.com/M073smKsp5

The one certainty here, as summed up by a social media user, may be that those who call attention to the Democrat lawmaker’s latest controversy are sure to be attacked, given the pattern seen from Omar on past controversies.
You’re an islamaphobe for investigating her..also a bigot…and a racist…something like that
