Green New Deal ‘expert’: ‘People of color dying daily’ from pollution, looming disaster like ’25 Holocausts’

On Thursday the liberal “news” network MSNBC brought on a woman with a master’s in philosophy and bachelor’s in “African American Studies” and “Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies” to lecture its audience about alleged climate change doom.

The woman, Rhiana Gunn-Wright, has been described as “one of the lead policy gurus behind the Green New Deal,” the economically unfeasible plan of action put forth by socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez earlier this year to deal with climate change.

When asked by MSNBC host Ali Velshi why the American people should care about climate change over other arguably more important issues such as healthcare, Gunn-Wright replied by fear-mongering with a Holocaust analogy.

Listen:

“So in the issues that you just brought up, climate change is one of the main drivers of our public health. So the difference between, say, 1.5 degrees of warming — which is the least that folks think that we can get — to 2, you are talking about 150 million deaths,” she claimed.

That’s 25 Holocausts, right? So how is that not a health issue? How is that not about health care? So even the issues that you outline, all of them are affected by climate change and how you decide to deal with climate is how you decide to deal with all these other issues.”

To be fair, the “150 million deaths” and “25 Holocausts” examples weren’t her invention. She appropriated the hyperbolic examples from David Wallace-Wells, a discredited far-left climate change fanatic and “journalist” with no formal training in the sciences.

“150 million more people would die from air pollution alone in a two-degree-warmer world than in a 1.5-degree-warmer one,” he wrote in an essay for New York magazine last year. “Numbers that large can be hard to grasp, but 150 million is the equivalent of 25 Holocausts.”

He’s previously faced criticism from actual scientists over his fear-mongering rhetoric. Gunn-Wright faced no such criticism Thursday on MSNBC.

Continuing the discussion, Velshi, whom MSNBC describes as an “award-winning journalist,” expressed his opinion, telling Gunn-Wright how “troubled” he is by all the people complaining about the GND’s exorbitant, economy-crushing costs (not to mention the environmental damage it’d trigger).

The “African American Studies” and “Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies” graduate replied by arguing that pursing the radical agenda — which would eliminate fossil fuel energy, nuclear energy, cars, airplanes, farting cows and meat — would ultimately be cheaper for society because fossil fuels cause cancer …

“So the cost of fossil fuels, of oil, the fuels that we use to power our cars are lower than they actually are because we don’t count the effect that they have on the environment, the effect that they have on public health, the fact that it’s causing people to get asthma and cancer and all of these other things,” she said.

“In a lot of ways it’s just the status quo. But the fact is that we have to start thinking about the cost of inaction because they are mounting and they are mounting quickly. And everyone agrees that they are higher than what we can even estimate right now. And so you cannot talk about the cost of dealing with a problem if you don’t talk about the cost of not dealing with that same problem.”

It’s not clear who exactly she meant by “everyone” …

As the discussion approached its conclusion, Gunn-Wright then trotted out the race card.

“We know that people, especially people of color, are dying daily from fossil fuel pollution,” she said. “We know that we are losing a million species right now because of climate change. We know that there are costs to the ways that we live right now and the sooner that we grapple with that reality, the sooner that we will all be able to build an America and a world that is safe and prosperous and healthy for all of us.”

Using the race card to fear-monger over climate change isn’t a new strategy. Three months ago The Washington Post published a patently racist piece titled, “Whites are mainly to blame for air pollution.”

And after President Donald Trump pulled America out of the Paris Accord two years ago, left-wing activists began accusing him of perpetrating “environmental racism.”

“Yesterday, Donald Trump dealt another blow in what seems like his war on people of color in America, when he announced the United States would withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord,” some at Essence magazine wrote. “Communities of color face some of the worst environmental devastation in the country. While the crisis in Flint and Hurricane Katrina are two widely known examples of the effects of climate change on our communities, there are countless examples that often go unnoticed.”

“While climate change will affect everyone on this planet, marginalized groups will always be the ones who suffer the most. Environmental issues, for that reason, are inherently black issues. They are issues that we should invest our time and energy into because #BlackLivesMatter,” someone at Blavity opined.

Even The Atlantic got in on the action by describing Trump’s decision as an example of “the new Jim Crow” that had allegedly overtaken America.

Despite America’s withdrawal from the Paris Accord, as of last year the U.S. had achieved a higher reduction in carbon emissions than any other nation on Earth.

That’s a fact. It’s unclear though whether facts are permitted at MSNBC.
