President Donald Trump slammed Robert Mueller for making a “fool” of himself with his public statement in a recent press conference.

During his visit to Normandy, France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the president spoke to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Thursday about the special counsel’s rare and very brief news conference last week.

“Let me tell you, he made such a fool out of himself … because what people don’t report is the letter he had to do to straighten out his testimony because his testimony was wrong,” Trump said on “The Angle,” apparently referring to Mueller’s remarks about the president not being charged with obstruction of justice because of Justice Department policies.

“Charging the president with a crime was not an option we could consider,” Mueller said, noting that a sitting president cannot be indicted.

“If we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said that. … We concluded that we would not reach a determination one way or the other about whether the president committed a crime,” Mueller said.

His comments set Democrats up in arms as they claimed he contradicted the summary and remarks from Attorney General William Barr who concluded that, as Mueller did not find there was any obstruction of justice offense by the president, there was also no evidence to support the charge.

Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec and spokesman for the special counsel Peter Carr issued a rare joint statement following Mueller’s press conference in order to present a united message from both offices.

“The Attorney General has previously stated that the Special Counsel repeatedly affirmed that he was not saying that, but for the [Office of Legal Counsel] opinion, he would have found the President obstructed justice …

“The Special Counsel’s report and his statement today made clear that the office concluded it would not reach a determination—one way or the other—about whether the President committed a crime,” they said. “There is no conflict between these statements.”

Asked where he stands on the possibility of Mueller testifying to Congress, Trump turned his attention on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was given a new nickname.

“Nancy Pelosi, I call her Nervous Nancy, Nancy Pelosi doesn’t talk about it,” Trump said about the joint statement. “Nancy Pelosi is a disaster, ok? She’s a disaster. Let her do what she wants, you know what? I think they’re in big trouble.”

Even as members of her own party have been clamoring for Trump’s impeachment, especially in light of Mueller’s report, Pelosi has not fully joined them. staying cool to the idea. However, the California Democrat reportedly acknowledged that she would rather see Trump defeated at the polls in 2020 and then face jail time for the crimes he allegedly committed.

“I don’t want to see him impeached; I want to see him in prison,” Pelosi was quoted as saying by anonymous sources.

Last week, Trump tweeted that “Democrats can’t impeach a Republican President for crimes committed by Democrats.”
