Hilarious takeaway lessons from deputy saving sleeping couple from a rattlesnake

A Tennessee couple may just owe their lives to a quick-thinking, keen-eyed sheriff’s deputy.

The two had been lying down, napping on a gravel lot, completely unaware of the deadly rattlesnake that was gradually inching closer to them.

That was when Maury County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Adam Sisk showed up on the scene and potentially saved their lives.

Watch bodycam footage of the unusual rescue below:

Upon arriving, Sisk exited his car and began approaching the couple.

“Hey guys. Guys! Hey, don’t move; there’s a rattlesnake right next to you!” he hollered.

“Ok!” the man replied.

Sisk then told the two to “go toward me.”

This is when things got a little silly. The guy hopped to his feet and began running off, never mind his female partner, lol.

And oh, the guy didn’t run toward Sisk — he ran away from him!

“Come here, don’t run away!” Sisk ordered.

Nice try, though.

The video ended with the woman slowly climbing to her feet.

The footage was shared to Facebook on Friday with the caption, “So many life lessons to be learned in this video!”

True.

Now comes the good news and the bad news.

The good news is that the two are OK.

“The Maury County Sheriff said drugs weren’t found on the two people and he had no reason to believe they were on drugs. No arrests were made in the incident, instead the deputy took the pair to their home,” Nashville station WTVF has confirmed.

And according to Maury County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Ray Jeter, the rescue didn’t occur by chance alone. Sisk was called to the area around 9:00 am last Thursday morning after the department received a complaint about two people just lying on a gravel lot.

“He was shocked by what he pulled up on seeing here. He was shocked by what he saw and just wanted to keep those individuals safe,” Jeter said to Fox News.

He added that the department’s policy when dealing with snakes is to “avoid contact” and also noted that the incident that occurred is “not common.”

Now it’s time for the bad news: The unidentified woman desperately needs a new boyfriend.

When Sisk told the couple to “go toward me,” he didn’t say “run like a maniac!”

In fact, according to the experts, the one thing you’re not supposed to do around a snake is run.

“That guy just ran off, that was not smart,” Bryan Swanson, the owner of Complete Animal Control, said to WTVF. “The snake could feel threatened and, most likely, bite the woman since she was right there in front of him.

*bangs head into desk*

So not only did this guy abandon his boo at her hour of need — but he put her at the risk of being bitten. What a friggen guy!

Chances are the guy doesn’t even know how to spell chivalry …

Anyway. Swanson added that, while it’s not common to see snakes sidle up so close to humans, folks in Tennessee should be wary going forward this summer.

“Snakes have woken up, their eggs have hatched, so yes, Middle Tennessee is going to see a lot of snakes,” he said. “All of them leave you alone if you leave them alone, so if you see one, just go the other way and don’t make any sudden movements.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that, out of the 7,000 to 8,000 Americans who suffer venomous snake bites annually, about five die. Had the snake pounced on the woman when her boyfriend jet, she could have easily been the latest causality.

Dear lady: Do yourself a favor and get yourself a new man, ok. Preferably a brave one like this courageous fella, albeit older, obviously.
