Anne Hathaway: White women, white men to blame for future black deaths due to AL anti-abortion law

Liberal actress Anne Hathaway (Known for hits like “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Ocean’s 8”) blasted white women who support Alabama’s recent anti-abortion law in a new Instagram post.

Posting an image of a sign that reads “if you’re against abortion don’t get one,” Hathaway railed against the “complicity of white women” who support Alabama’s new law.

“Yes the anti-abortion movement is primarily about controlling women’s bodies under the premise (for many, sincere) of saving lives, and yes this law is primarily the work of white men,” the actress began her long post with.

She continued, “HOWEVER, a white woman sponsored the bill and a white woman signed it into law.” Hathaway is referring to Rep. Terri Collins who cosponsored the anti-abortion bill before it was signed into law and Gov. Kay Ivey who actually signed the pro-life bill into law. Both women are Republicans.

The 36-year-old actress then said the “complicity” of these white women will lead to the “unavoidable deaths of women,” primarily poor and black women.

“As we’re resisting, let us also call out the complicity of the white women who made this awful moment possible, and which–make no mistake–WILL lead to the unnecessary and avoidable deaths of women, a disproportionate number of whom will be poor and/or black,” she wrote.

Hathaway then asked her followers to donate to various left-wing organizations like Planned Parenthood and Yellowhammer Fund.

“Speak up. Show up. Don’t give up,” wrote Hathaway.

Hathaway’s post included other pro-abortion pictures in a slide show. One image was the phrase “men shouldn’t be making laws about women’s bodies” written over and over again. Another includes a pie graph that “explains” why women get abortions. Though the pie graph is chopped up into different sections, each simply says, “none of your business.”

The final image is a tweet from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is one of many liberals hoping to challenge Donald Trump for the presidency in 2020.

“The abortion ban in Alabama is not about protecting life. It is about controlling women’s bodies,” tweeted Sanders.

Alabama’s new law prohibits nearly all abortions and does not make exceptions for rape and incest. It also states that performing an abortion is a Class A felony for doctors. Even some on the right have called the law too extreme. Televangelist Pat Robertson said the law is “extreme” and goes “too far.”

Criticism may be unwarranted though since lawmakers who support the law have stated that the language is extreme because the real goal is to eventually head to the Supreme Court to challenge Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized abortions in the United States. As for Alabama, the law will likely take years to enforce, if it even ends up sticking.

Various other states have also entered the abortion debate through new laws. For instance, Georgia recently passed a “heartbeat” law, which outlaws abortions being performed on a mother after a heartbeat can be detected by a doctor. This usually occurs when a woman is about six weeks pregnant.
