Brit Hume was not about to let President Donald Trump’s attack on Fox News go unchallenged.
The network’s senior analyst came to its defense after Trump fired a shot at Fox News Chanel for a scheduled town hall with Mayor Pete Buttigieg on Sunday.
“Fox is moving more and more to the losing (wrong) side in covering the Dems,” Trump tweeted ahead of the event with the South Bend, Indiana mayor and 2020 candidate.
“They got dumped from the Democrats boring debates, and they just want in. They forgot the people who got them there,” he wrote, referring to the decision by Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez in March to bar Fox News from hosting any Democrat primary debates, citing a story in The New Yorker alleging close ties between the president and several Fox News hosts.
Hard to believe that @FoxNews is wasting airtime on Mayor Pete, as Chris Wallace likes to call him. Fox is moving more and more to the losing (wrong) side in covering the Dems. They got dumped from the Democrats boring debates, and they just want in. They forgot the people…..

The president also took aim at Fox News’ Chris Wallace, slamming him for his praise of Buttigieg and adding that he “never speaks well of me.”
….who got them there. Chris Wallace said, “I actually think, whether you like his opinions or not, that Mayor Pete has a lot of substance…fascinating biography.” Gee, he never speaks well of me – I like Mike Wallace better…and Alfred E. Newman will never be President!

Following Sunday’s town hall, Hume responded to Trump’s jab with a rebuke of his own, noting that at least the Democrat was willing to face Wallace, unlike his 2020 rivals. He also fired back at Trump for not doing the same, while schooling him on the job of a news organization.
“Say this for Buttigieg. He’s willing to be questioned by Chris Wallace, something you’ve barely done since you’ve been president,” Hume tweeted Sunday in direct response to the president. “Oh, and covering candidates of both parties is part of the job of a news channel.”

For his part, Buttigieg showed his appreciation for the airtime by slamming the “voices at Fox” for their part in “amplifying hate.”

“First, let me be clear: I strongly condemn the voices on Fox and in the media that uncritically amplify hate and the divisive sort of politics that gave rise to this presidency,” he wrote in a statement sent to supporters defending his decision. “If we ignore the viewers of Fox News and every news platform that doesn’t share our worldview, we will surrender our ability to speak directly to millions of American voters.”
While Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Amy Klobuchar have not followed the DNC’s lead in boycotting Fox News, Sen. Elizabeth Warren last week declared that she turned down a Fox News invitation to do a town hall because the network is “a hate-for-profit racket that gives a megaphone to racists and conspiracists.”

In a rant on Twitter, the Massachusetts Democrat claimed dramatically that “it’s designed to turn us against each other” while providing “cover for the corruption that’s rotting our government.”
Meanwhile, Hume got plenty of heat for his rebuke of the president, and though he was quick to stand by his remarks, Twitter users roasted him for calling out Trump and not Wallace.
Well @brithume, in an effort to show to the rest of media that he is fair, Fox News Wallace would hit GOP Trump, and to show to the rest of media that he is fair, Wallace would be softer to Democrat @PeteButtigieg so of course Pete is willing to be interviewed by Chris.

Just as I thought, pure surmise. You have no idea how a newsman like Chris Wallace thinks. You’re a smart guy but your armchair journalism suffers from never having been a reporter.
— Brit Hume (@brithume) May 20, 2019
I am not a trained reporter, but we have eyes and ears. Chris badgers the right, and leaves easy follow up Qs unasked for the left.
Not sure if it is bias, or just a blind spot.
Either way we notice.— Reid ℹ (@ReidSpeed123) May 20, 2019
“Questioned” ? In the same way Obama was “questioned” by the media. pic.twitter.com/fL1tQ70ZlB

You got to admit, Brit, that’s a little easier than what Trump gets. The media, including Fox and Chris Wallace, give pretty easy softballs to Democrats.
— T.L. Wright (@TWright37711475) May 20, 2019
Seriously, “a little easier” is putting it mildly, T.L.! @FoxNewsSunday Chris Wallace is a #NeverTrump, something that Brit has failed to account for ?

Why should @POTUS @realDonaldTrump subject himself to yet more hostile, #NeverTrump, #FakeNewsMedia BS when he can get his message across to people like @seanhannity?
There’s just no reason to waste time defending himself to idiots when he does it all day, anyway.— ❌Ƭαвιтнα Ɓℓιѕѕ❌ ❤?????? (@BlissTabitha) May 20, 2019
You can’t say Trump isn’t transparent… Hardly anyone needs to interview him, he speaks his mind on a daily basis and isnt afraid of the media…
— VS ن (@ValSanchez7) May 20, 2019
President Trump faces more of you idiots than any sitting POTUS ever has. As for Buttigieg he had nothing but negative things to say about your network & your colleagues as Wallace sits back and lets him do so. See how quickly you are to condemn the president but not a Democrat
