Dems plan to hold their own fake ‘counter briefing’ on Iran, invite anti-Trump Brennan to advise, report says

Instead of trusting the expertise of the Trump administration’s foreign policy experts, congressional Democrats are reportedly looking to Obama-era CIA Director John Brennan to guide their decision-making vis-à-vis the situation with Iran, which has been acting badly as of late.

Brennan, a known liar whose possible role in the alleged FISA abuse scandal is reportedly being investigated by Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz, is slated to be the chief witness (or star) at a hearing that Democrats plan to hold Tuesday as “counterprogramming” to a formal closed-door to be held that same afternoon by the Trump administration.

“Brennan, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, is scheduled to talk to House Democrats at a private weekly caucus meeting Tuesday,” the Associated Press reported Sunday, citing two anonymous sources who’re “familiar with the private meeting.”

It’s unclear what expertise Brennan will be able to provide. What’s known is that he’s such a liar that The Guardian once labeled him “the most talented liar in Washington.”

Some have also accused him of being responsible for giving the infamous Steele dossier credence and allowing it to be used as a predicate for the Russian collusion probe.

Also slated to attend the hearing is Obama-era Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. She reportedly played a key role in negotiating the widely panned 2013 nuclear pact with Iran that President Donald Trump later formally withdrew the U.S. from during his second year in office.

She reemerged back into the spotlight last year when Obama-era Secretary of State John Kerry began actively maneuvering against the Trump administration by engaging in “unusual shadow diplomacy” with a top-ranking Iranian official. Reports emerged at the time that Kerry had put together a group of his former officials to lobby Congress to fight back against Trump’s withdrawal.

“The group, called Diplomacy Works, has an advisory council that includes lead Iran-deal negotiator Wendy Sherman, former State Department chief of staff Jon Finer, and former spokeswoman Jen Psaki,” The Boston Globe reported at the time.

“The group claims to be responsible for 100 news articles, 34 television and radio hits, and 37 opinion pieces on the Iran question. They do fact checks of criticisms of the agreement and blast them out to an e-mail list of nearly 4,000 policy makers and foreign policy experts.”

It’s unclear what sort of expertise she could provide, especially given as her Obamaesque, pro-appeasement agenda completely belies the agenda of the Trump administration, which has been aggressive in its push for justice in not only Iran but Venezuela as well:

Earlier this month the Trump administration deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the Middle East “to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime” in response to reported threats from Iranian and its allies.

“[A]ny attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force,” National Security Adviser John Bolton warned at the time. “The United States is not seeking war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, whether by proxy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or regular Iranian forces.”

This posturing was a far cry from the troubling images in January 2016 of 10 U.S. sailors being held at gunpoint in the Persian Gulf by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which the Trump administration designated a terrorist organization last month.

The incident occurred under Kerry’s auspices and ended with the then-secretary of state thanking Iran for eventually releasing the sailors. Never mind that the sailors should have never been apprehended in the first place …

Recent Tension with Iran spiked further after four oil tankers, two reportedly belonging to Saudi Arabia, were attacked allegedly by Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards last weekend.

Days later, an oil pipeline that runs through Saudi Arabia, which as a reminder is a close ally of the Trump administration, was reportedly hit by Iranian-linked drones.

In the time since these attacks, current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made a brief visit to Iraq, which borders Iran, and the federal government ordered all nonessential government staff in Iraq to depart the country immediately. But there’s even more.

“In addition to the carrier and bombers, the U.S. is moving a Patriot missile battery to an undisclosed country in the area and is dispatching the amphibious transport ship the USS Arlington, which has more Marines on board and more sophisticated capabilities than the ship it will replace. U.S. military fighter jets have been flying around the region in a show of force,” The Washington Post notes.

The Trump administration doesn’t intend to handle Iran with kid gloves, which again raises the question of why congressional Democrats are looking to a known liar and a known appeaser for guidance. And FYI, the known liar, John Brennan, doesn’t even have a security clearance anymore
