A picture is worth a thousand words. And in the case of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a video is just as powerful.
The Minnesota Democrat slung an insult at President Donald Trump that boomeranged back when his official campaign used her own comments in a blistering response.
Omar tweeted her reaction to a moment in Trump’s campaign rally in Florida on Wednesday, as he spoke about the influx of migrants illegally entering the U.S. The president noted that U.S. Border Patrol agents do not carry weapons to deter the illegal border crossings, and rhetorically asked the Panama City Beach crowd what could be done.
“And don’t forget, we don’t let them, and we can’t let them use weapons,” Trump said. “We can’t. Other countries do. We can’t. I would never do that. But how do you stop these people? You can’t.”
At that point, someone in the crowd reportedly yelled, “Shoot them!”
Trump shook his head as the crowd cheered, and he commented, “That’s only in the Panhandle you can get away with that statement.”
“Only in the Panhandle,” Trump joked.
Naturally, the media depicted the moment in the most negative way possible for the president, declaring that Trump shrugged off the comment, laughed with the crowd and joked about the idea of shooting people, none of which can be backed by even a quick view of the video.
Omar joined the attacks, tweeting out her condemnation in response.
“This was hard to watch and listen to but unsurprising that Trump would laugh about shooting people who come to our country seeking a better life,” the Muslim congresswoman tweeted Thursday.
Trump’s 2020 campaign responded without using a word, tweeting a video of Omar mocking Americans and their fear of the Islamic-terror organizations al-Qaeda and Hezbollah.

A recently surfaced video from 2013 showed Omar referring to a college class she once took on terrorism and what she thought was the funny way the terrorist groups were discussed.

“The thing that was interesting, in the class, was every time the professor said ‘al-Qaeda,’ his shoulders sort of went up,” Omar explained in the interview, laughing as she mimicked the action of pulling back her shoulders and taking on a serious expression.
“Al-Qaeda, you know, Hezbollah,” she laughed along with the interviewer, emphasizing the words and the way she claimed the professor spoke them.
Omar who, along with her fellow Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, have drawn repeated backlash as the nation’s first Muslim congresswomen, sparking condemnation and accusations of anti-Semitism and anti-American sentiments.
The president criticized Omar in a tweet responding to her comments at a Council on American-Islamic Relations fundraiser in California in March referring to the 9/11 terror attack on the United States as “some people did something.”
“She’s been very disrespectful to this country,” Trump told a reporter in Omar’s home state of Minnesota last month. “She’s been very disrespectful, frankly, to Israel. She’s somebody that doesn’t really understand life. Real life. What it’s all about.”
The Democrat recently declared she is Trump’s “biggest nemesis” in a tweet linking to an article published by Huffington Post.
This is a president who has come to power vilifying and demonizing immigrants and refugees. He proudly said we should halt Muslims from entering our country.
It’s not a surprise that he finds his biggest nemesis in me. https://t.co/vl7tjmnSFr

Her pronouncement was not received well.
I think @IlhanMN got this one wrong.
She’s not President Trump’s greatest nemesis.
