Democrats and their media allies are so fearful of the gains President Trump may be realizing among people of color that they have pushed all in on claiming that he is a racist.
The latest example of this was seen Thursday on MSNBC, when political operative Ron Klain implied Trump was “happy” that only “white players” from the Boston Red Sox World Series championship team showed up for their official White House visit.
The team was making the traditional championship visit and manager Alex Cora declined not to go, as did a number of players of color, including World Series MVP Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr,, David Price, Rafael Devers, Sandy Leon, Christian Vazquez, Hector Velazquez and Xander Bogaerts, according to The Boston Globe.
Cora said earlier this week that he was uncomfortable making the trip while his native Puerto Rico is still recovering from Hurricane Maria and MSNBC host Nicole Wallace tried to tie the decision to the controversy over hurricane relief for Puerto Rico.
“Tell me if you’re picking up any sort of consideration of using today’s visit to try to draw his attention to try to get more resources for [Puerto Rico] or did they just view this as a day that was about sports and about the team?” Wallace asked The Globe’s Adrien Walker.
“I think they’ve really just viewed it as a day that was about sports and about the team,” Walker said. “There was some feeling here that Cora should go to the White House and perhaps try to make a case for Puerto Rico to the president or something like that. But they’ve opted to go in a completely different direction.”
Klain, who served as chief of staff for former Vice Presidents Joe Biden and Al Gore, jumped on the opportunity to claim that Trump “relishes in dividing the country” — the irony of his own divisive tactics not lost on fair-minded viewers.
“Look, sports is supposed to be something that brings us together as a country,” he bloviated. “And White House visits of sports teams are supposed to be something that bring us together as a country. And among the many, many sad chapters of Donald Trump is that he relishes in dividing us as a country.”
Klain was just getting warmed up in attacking the president, adding an egregious remark about Trump being “happy” that only white players showed up.
“I bet he was happy today that he was able to say that the white players were here and players of color weren’t. That’s the kind of division he fosters deliberately,” he said. “It’s the exact opposite of what presidents — Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative — are supposed to do around these kinds of events.”
All the while, Wallace shook her head back and forth in disgust — we must assume in agreement with the blatant partisan smear.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox clearly looked to rise above the politicization of their visit.

“We don’t see it as a racial divide,” Red Sox chairman Tom Werner reportedly said of the decision of some players skipping the visit. “I think to the extent that we can, we think that baseball is apolitical.”
